Well, come on now, it just wouldn't b American to not make fun of someone at every opportunity, or kick someone while they're down, or hav someone show the least bit of vulnerability and not accuse them of being a weak baby. I mean that's just not the way things r done around here. You see somebody hurting it's your chance to stick some mud in their face, u can't get away with it when they're brave and walking tall. While you're busy making someone else feel like absolute crap, bcuz you're absolutely miserable in ur own life, and too cowardly to admit it, god is not so subtly telling us that it is not the way. How many more Columbines is it going to take for us to realize that?BTW, not u sportsoutlaw, I meant the drivers that talk #$%*

Most of the fights that I got into growing up were with 'Bullies,' usually picking on someone else!! Cant stand them!

I know this is a year old LOL but I was just sent to this thread.
I have to say that David would send me in to some recievers to get better unload time and sent to better restrooms.
We went to this one place he had been 2 maybe 3 times before and had been treated like a 2nd class person. He sent me in and we were unloaded in under an hour and was escorted to a front office restroom even offered something to drink. I didnt act dumb but I did act like a lady and yes I do tip toe around water LOL BUT I will get dirty and can unhook the trailer and open the doors alone. David has told me he would rather I go in thoses places and and smile and say please and get out of there fast then sit and pound his chest and listen to them pound thiers.
So, some do talk around me to him, there are ways to tell them they are the pigs they are and have them laugh as your walking away.
Also I was treated the worst by a woman in Charlotte who later presented me a check for making the Who's who of American Teachers. I asked to use the restroom and she rudely said I could use the workers bathroom down the hall then went and checked to make sure everything was still there before she would unlock the door for me to leave. All the time looking down her nose at me. It was priceless to remind her to treat everyone she sees at work with respect. The person you are looking down at could meet you at a later time and you will see who they really are. My only hope in that is another trucker or his wife will not have to endure that treatment. -

I don't get it? -
I wonder if female drivers are friendly and helpful to each other on the road. Most times I drive by one I try to smile and wave, but many won't even look at me... or maybe it's only my perception...
When I chose this job I didn't consider my very petit size and that I would be a female working in a predominantly male field... After all, there are many females doing this job and this is America, not a backwards macho country... But after a while I got upset and tired of catching others' attention sooooo constantly, people staring at me while I drive, when I step out of the truck
...approaching me to say things, ask questions, take pictures... It made me feel as if I were a freak in a circus...
But then I realized the truck and I is a really "weird" combination, at least according to what everybody is used to see...
While some people congratulate me for doing what I'm doing, others despise me, look angry at me and are unfriendly, unhelpful and mean.... I'll not change their mind... So I'm learning not to let peoples' reaction to what I do affect me so much and move on enjoying what I do. -
Um, I think you got that part wrong. More people look ill at ease when I am strong and vocal than when I'm meek and helpless...
Prejudice happens on so many different levels. Men claim they want a strong woman, but what they really mean is around everyone else, be strong. Around me, please fall apart so I can fix it and feel good about myself.
I'm not trying to paint the same color to all the bucks out there. There are a FEW who aren't Neanderthals and are truly at ease with a woman in a typically male job. But they are few and far between.
Oh, and women...they are just as bad. They think you are betraying the gender or something by not spending $200 on a cut and style and color every 4 weeks and $50 on a mani/pedi. And you know ...not doing anything that might chip the main.
I think I got kicked in the "I can't believe you DO that" bone today. Only my fun was chasing livestock, not trucking. My man is out there driving. Who's gonna catch the #### thing if I don't?

I'm a male and I understand what your saying, but remember if your good at what you do and enjoy it. Go for it ! let the idiots stare it doesn't mean a thing. I had a crew of women in the Navy and I would put them against an all male crew any day!
1nonly Thanks this. -
Women in "male jobs" is no big deal at all to me, but I learned young it is a big deal to others. I was raised amongst strong women, so I didn't question it until adulthood when the issue began to rear it's ugly head. Most of the time, it's just irritating. All the people saying "you drive that big ol truck?" Or being asked if I work there when I'm at a truckstop.
Just in the short time I've been OTR, I've noticed an increase in the number of lady drivers, but we are still a very definite minority, and thus we are noticeable. I don't suppose there's anything we can do about it. I believe we will someday live in a world where gender is a non-issue, but we are not there yet. -
My response to women in "male jobs" is the same as men in "female jobs" = AWESOME. There are a lot of jobs that seem to swing one way or the other (nursing, teaching elementary school, teaching college, truck driving, construction, farming.)
I do admit to letting the cute little college boy load animal feed into the back of my station wagon, tho. It gives me and the Gymnast something to ogle. I'm married, not dead. And she's a teen (17), not blind.
Sorry if I came off harshly. I've heard "how can you DO that" one too many times today (yes, I really do cut up 1/2 a cow and package it. Really.)
