Hey, I have a Columbia with fairings (side skirts) front to rear, do I need to pull my right rear fairing to install an APU?

That's a maybe. I know they put APU's on Swifts, and Central's Volvos. Ask the dealer installing, or planning to install. I would like to thank you, while you are probably doing it for fuel costs, it also helps the enviroment.

There are many reasons I am doing it and yes, the environment is one of them.

Most likely no, I see plenty of FL's with APUs and the fairings are still there, it really depends what brand you get: Tripac and proheat fit behind the fairing, as does a Rigmaster (barely), but a Blackrock probably won't fit (look at one and you'll know why, that is one BIG box).

Freightliner has their own as well (I think it's just a rebadged version of someone else's) sold under the Alliance brand name.

What brand are you planning to go with?

If/when I ever have the need for one I'm planning on a Tripac from Thermo king.

Tripac would be my choice too.

I am kinda leaning towards the rigmaster, because it puts out more useable wattage, and is seperate from the truck's systems. Of course, this means that you get a big heater/AC under your bunk, and when it's running, it isn't heating your coolant (which in winter ain't a great thing).

We had a rigmaster in our truck and it was very loud. I have read that rigmaster is one of the loudest generators on the market. Of course if you are pulling reefer the loudness may not bother you.

What about all of the negative reviews of the Rigmaster?
