It's one thing to point a gun.
Totally another to pull the trigger, and end someones life.
"I have noticed that im getting hit up for cash more at lots of truckstops, even in the fuel lanes."
Really? I never have been.
Guess I just live right, or somethin'.

I think I am going to Velcro my 380 to my wallet. When the time comes and some one ask me to remove my wallet I will be glad to do just that.Black_379 Thanks this.

Has nothing to do with living right maybe your just not getting out much. People are desperate, jobless, homeless and broke. They are hitting the truck stops more then ever.Rollover the Original Thanks this.

I guess hindsight as usual is 20/20, but if you think things like this through before hand, you can end up the winner. Yes, think these types of scenarios through before hand. It's call "street survival". Years ago as a LEO, I got to go through street survival training. One of the most important tools is your brain. Develop a "film" of things like this, where things start going south on you. Then add in what you would do, and see yourself doing it, and being the winner. You then replay this "film" in your mind over and over again. If and when the situation presents itself, you will be acting/reacting on instinct, and what you have in your "film" will happen.
I can think of a couple of things other than not opening or unlocking the door. First if the lizard is standing on the ground, what real danger is she? She needs to climb onto the step. How balanced would she be? Have the truck idling, if she's on the step and doesn't want to get down, off come the brakes, kick it in gear, peddle to the metal, and start turning in her direction. Stab the brakes, whatever to shake her off. She pulls a gun, well I'd say she just becomes a lizard pancake.
What do you have in your truck, that you could push or hit her with? Might be worthwhile if you don't want to carry a gun, get another small fire-extinguisher, keep it where you can grab it. Unload the thing in her face, then hit her with it, if the chemical isn't getting her attention. If she's already on the step, but the doors not open, and she tries to open it, help her out, by pushing or kicking the door open, hopefully it will split her bean, or she'll fall off. You have a nasty P bottle, throw it on her.
Now for those that do carry a gun, well unless you're packing a bazooka, it's easy enough to keep it where you could grab it, without the lizard seeing. There's overhead compartments, compartments in the doors, where you could have it laying next to your dummy wallet. Grab them both, and give her both. Heck even if the lizard gets a shot off, it doesn't mean that you'll get hit, or if you do, that it will be fatal. I'd be squeezing the trigger until the creature wasn't moving anymore. Along that line, there's been officers that have been shot in the leg and rolled over and died. Others that have been fatally shot, yet managed to kill their attacker. The latter is the result of the above Street Survival techniques.
Just need to be thinking, and creative.kw9's rock, Big Don and Ops85 Thank this. -
Are you sure that was wasp spray?

One guy came up to me in Ripon, CA at the Loves. First thing he asks me is if I'm cool with black people. I say yes. So he shoots me his sad story and whatever. Keeps bringing up the black thing multiple times and keeps saying this white trucker said this or that.
I tell him I don't have cash and he says, "Well this white trucker told me that all you guys keep some change and cash for tolls." So I told him, "Well this black guy told me how scams work."reptij, KajunTankerYanker and Rollover the Original Thank this. -
The simple solution is don't answer the door when someone knocks on it. If they keep knocking on it, call the police.
Don't give anyone money. Don't let anyone in your truck.
Having a gun is only going to give you more harm than good. If you draw a gun, you better be ready to use it.driverdriver Thanks this. -
I was actually gonna click "Thanks" until I read the last sentence. I was proud of you for making one halfway intelligent post, but then you went and ruined it.

For the record, I'm not a anti-gun activist. The reason for that last sentence is simple: You're not a cop, and cops absolutely hate it when citizens try to do their job. 2nd: there's a fine line between self-defense and manslaughter/2nd degree murder. With the lost income from downtime due to court hearings and whatnot, it's almost pointless to carry a firearm on the truck. Don't put yourself into the position of needing a firearm for self-defense reasons, and you'll never need to use one. If you do need something for self-defense, the creative mind can use anything within arms reach as a weapon. Guns don't kill people, but guns can easily take away your freedom.
And the reason why I stated you better be ready to use it is also simple. In the situation depicted in the OP where the lizzard was inside the truck, what if the lizzard manages to remove your gun during a struggle? Guess what? Now you're un-armed and the lizzard has your gun. Having that gun did you alot of good there.Last edited: Oct 13, 2011

Protecting myself and my family IS my job! The cops cant be everywhere. I believe very strongly that everybody has a responsibility to know how to take care of and defend themselves.
And who cares about court costs and lost time when you may have saved your own life?Last edited: Oct 13, 2011
