No not a cop now, but was for several years. Have you ever been one? Some drivers have been, and have been properly trained, which a huge part of is mentally prepared. We know that when you pull a gun, it is to protect one's life, that the situation should justify the use of deadly force. Just like being a trucker gets in your blood and doesn't go away, so does being cop, and thinking like one. Now one better than that, is those drivers that grew up in rural America, on farms. They know how to protect themselves, and should not, and would not hesitate doing so.
The scumbags that rob, bully, threaten or terrorize, continue to do so mainly because more and more people are scared to defend themselves. They're more worried about what someone else might think, then they are their own lives, or that of their family. The Political Correctness would have you believe that you're not to be allowed to defend yourself, you're to hide in a corner and let someone do as they want to you. It's time people start waking the hell up.
Don't even start thinking that because you don't like guns, you have any right to tell, insinuate, or force your personal ideology on those that do. I'm one of those that firmly adhere to You'll take my guns out of my cold dead hands.
Yep fine line between self-defense, and death. However which do you choose? You don't have hours, minutes or seconds to decide. When things like this happen, it is a split-second decision, it's you or them, period!!! Rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6!! But recently, with all the morons that are too worried about what "they may think or say", and all the anti-gun propaganda being shoved down the throats of those that can't and won't think for themselves, the guilty until proven innocent is a possibility. But I'd be alive while the scumbag is pushing up daisies. -
There is a couple in an old Uhaul truck selling stun guns there. They park in the rear and and use the CB to advertise. Maybe they are taking advantage of the crime spree or maybe it's a tag team type of situation.
SHC Thanks this. -
I also keep a little friend with me at all times, but there are other things I do, just incase, I have two wallets, One that I keep all my cerdit cards and licence, and a little cash in, the other has those fake credit cards you sometimes get when you buy a wallet, and some fake money, if this happens to me, that the wallet they will get, while they inspect the wallet, give me time to retreve my little friend, or they have just taking off with nothingSHC Thanks this.

Being a former COP and Narcotics Detective i can tell you no officer i know or knew ever disliked a responsible gun owner having a firearm for their protection. We only hated the gun toting bad guys. Now as far as the difference between Self Defense or Man Slaughter is being able to ARTICULATE that you were in fear of your life. Those of you who may say that you have to able to use the weapon i totally agree. Pulling a gun and shooting at a target is different than a person. Also having a gun pointed at you is something that if it's never happened to you will test your metal and your training so just because you think you might don't mean you'll be able to respond and that's not even mentioning being shot at. I've unfortunately been in all the above as well as had to shoot. Taking a life is not something anyone should have to do but is necessary sometimes in order to preserve one. I like to say the Criminal is the victim of his own crime if he challenges me. I whole heartedly believe you should protect your self by any means necessary. oh and by the way the Mag-Lite is a very useful tool. I've hit two Bad guys over the head with one and they will bust your scalp quicker than a knife. But if D.O.T asks remember it's a flashlight not a weapon once you acknowledge it as a weapon that's how they will treat it. Remeber it's ALWAYS better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6.
WatsonDL1, chipper9, reptij and 1 other person Thank this. -
@ Eaton. I firmly believe alot of what you say and a person with halfway intelligence and knowledge should be able to carry and protect themselves.
The problem is there are too many idiots out there including sitting in the seat of a truck that would use a gun in the wrong situation given a chance. The laws are made for these idiots and the rest of us have to suffer to control them.
Just two days ago, a woman was shot in the head by a man over a road rage incident. Truck drivers have killed each other over CB fights. On COPS the other day, grandma was wildly shooting through her front door because she heard a noise outside by her garage. This is just a very small sample of the irresponsibility going on.
We're in a position where we are not allowed to carry by state laws. The law can't distiguish who is responsible and who isn't. Can one remain safe without a gun?? Yes they can, by being aware of their surroundings and how they handle the situation.
There's an old news story that sticks in my head. Back when the crack heads started car jacking. A blackbelt karate instructor/ former Navy Seal who also had a gun in his glovebox was driving down in Chattanooga. Now you would think a person like this could handle himself in all situations. Anyways, he pulled up to a redlight behind another car and a car jacker approached him from his blind side and put a gun to his head. All the man did was reach to undo his seatbelt and the crackhead blew him away. No training or gun is going to stop that.
Very few truck drivers will keep a gun in sight in fear of a leo seeing it. Hence, you have to get to it. Most robbers will use the element of surprise. There will be more situations that your gun is useless than help you. At home, you have time to get to your weapon. In a truck you don't unless it's on your side. I still think a man's brains is his best defense. After all we are all still alive and haven't had to draw yet. -
I can see your point in being ready and not having a chance however the chattanooga incident as you said the "seal" had no chance. However given a chance it's a personal choice to carry or not. I can see where some people shouldn't carry but that shouldn't limit those who want to.
I am of the belief that if you think a gun is your only protection you're to paranoid to carry a gun. A GUN SHOULD ALWAYS BE YOUR LAST RESORT. With that said you don't have to follow a use of force continuum but you should be able to use common sense. -
It will shoot 25 feet take out anything you want out of your way and they sell it everywhere

people get murdered for less than that on a regular basisRollover the Original and Big John Thank this. -
Yes it was, why do you ask? It is cheap and legal and you never know when a bad person is going to try and enter your truck and a wasp fly's in at the same time, it can happen. I haven't been able to find any Lot Lizard spray at my local Ace Hardware.AXE and kw9's rock Thank this.
