Agree with all the others. The freezing temps are what can get you.
I used to haul sand to the concrete plants and they do load it wet at times.
I watched another driver turn his brand new rig over because the sand was frozen in the bed.
Most places should have a level pad to back up to the shaker that you dump the sand and gravel in.If not be sure you are on level ground.

Expect really long hours too....we ran from 3 am to 4 or 5 every evening.
The dump truck gig can be really hard work.

Once you get used to unloading you will do fine.

LEVEL-LEVEL-LEVEL!!!! Check truck for debris that might fly off in transport. Check for debris between wheels. I would get that a lot hauling clay.

    Oh...did I mention LEVEL!

I was pressured by a few contractors to dump where it was not safe. Stand your ground. If it is not safe....make it safe by changing position etc. You are the boss!!! Good luck!! :)

P.S. Up here in Canada we often spray a little calcium chloride solution in the box to aid in keeping stuff loose in freezing temps. Works pretty good. Can't use diesel up here as it is an environmental contaminant.

There are 2 kinds of end dumps: Ones that have been tipped over and ones that will some day.

Like was said above, LEVEL when dumping. I have an end dump I use now and then, and am still shocked at how high the thing looks when up in the air, lol.

Also, if you are going to pull a "farmeless" check your pivot arm pins every day and keep them well greased. Had a pin snap on me while at about 90% raise on 40' MAC trailer loaded with 26T of sand.....was not a fun ride over!

If it's a frame-less always try and dump with your drivers window down. The trailer is designed to break away in the event of a tip over. ( But it doesn't always work). If a tip over happens and the truck rocks violently that window is the first thing your head will hit.

A good friend of mine was off work for 6 months with a bruise on his brain from hitting his head on the window during a tip - over.

Also remember to look up before dumping. Stay away from power lines...Far away. It will arc a tractor length to your trailer and then it gets ugly.

If this happens no three point contact rule or your dead. Hop out of truck landing on both feet but have no contact with the tractor. Then with your feet together hop ( NOT WALK OR RUN ) away.

You're better off sitting in the truck until the electric company shuts off the power. Only reason to attempt to get out is if the truck is on fire.
