They were just recently sold...
http://amarillo.com/news/local-news/2011-09-06
An Ohio company has acquired an almost 70-year-old Amarillo business launched on a shoestring and expected to post $50 million in sales this year.
Kenan Advantage Group of North Canton, Ohio, closed the purchase of Jack B. Kelley Inc., or JBK, on Aug. 31. Officials declined to disclose the sale price.
With 12 terminals in the United States, 48 employees in Amarillo and 229 employees and contractors in other parts of the country, JBK is now part of Kenan's Merchant Gas Group, which transports industrial gases.Last edited: Oct 13, 2011
puncher Thanks this. -
kenan advantage just bought CTI and Kelley we are having a plant outage now and have many of them pulling for us..stay far far away from CTI... Kelley is a little better but since KAG owns both I look for bad changes coming for them...neither of them pay near the industry standards...from many ( not all) of them I have seen they are lacking a lot in safety training and basic knowledge of the products they are hauling..I thinkl at one time they were a very reputable company but I think those days are about gone...they are used alot to cover spot work, plant outages and also are brought in to cross picket lines during strikes at customers and co plants

Thanks CCTANKER, I've known about the buyout for a couple of months now. I'm curious about your statement they don't pay near industry standards, though. I'm told, by them, they are starting o/o's out at 1.135/mi. Compared to Genox paying appx 0.95/mi I'd say that is almost .20/mi more. Am I missing something or are others paying more? As far as the lack of safety/training, I'd say they need a good trainer in which I have lots of experience so that's an asset in my book. I also don't mind crossing picket lines because unions are attempting to upgrade their contracts. I look at it like this; if they shut the company down, the union workers are out of a job and nobody wants that.
Thank you for your input. -
dont know much about the owner op pay for pulling cryo...i did have a cti tell me this week that he was making $1.40 mile but didnt get load or unload pay until he gave 2 hours ...as far as co. driver pay for jb kelley and cti they are very low compared to what co. drivers earn...I have a pal that used to work with me at AGA that now works for cti he is only getting .395 a mile and $15.00 hour whereas all of the co. guys around here ( Linde,Air Products,Prax & Airgas) are getting over $20.00 hr and around .50 cpm....he did say that kelley offered him a couple more pennies on the mile but expected him to stay out 3+ weeks...as far as owner ops go pulling cryo I have heard cti and genox are bottom..kelley a little bit better ..theres a co. called grammer industries out of grammer IN that pulls a few cryo , co2 that pay O/O well...from the couple of guys I know Grammer is no comparison to the others..one thing I have saw regularly is the grammer guys work hard(14 hours everyday) but make premium pay where I see the genox and cti drivers doing about 10-11 hours and calling it a day...our plant has been down for 2 weeks its 300 mile turn from where we have been loading to run into our pipeline tank most( not all) of the cti, genox and kelley are doing 1 round a day the grammer and suttles guys are doing 1 1/2-1 3/4 trips per day..
