Thanks for that Husker. Unfortunately we already took the long way. Craig clued me into the shortcut but mentioned it may be closed due to a bridge washout. I looked briefly online and couldn't find anything and was asking on the radio for a while before someone told me it's closed to big trucks, but didn't offer your info about the detour.
The thought was I wouldn't get reloaded Sunday and could probably get a restart in (especially with super secret parking provisions, but alas at quitting time a Beaverton apple load to Chariton picking up Sunday, due Wednesday morning came through. 1800 miles, on 30 hours, Hmmmm... We'll see I guess. -
I do! Normally I'd say I'm a little bummed the weather has been so good on the passes so far this trip but with how I'm feeling I'm dreading the thought of slinging chains right now.
-
As matter of fact I laid claim to a brand new set of chains today! Hey Brian when you head back to HyVee I can give you the route I take which is the exact same distance but a more scenic drive. When you are heading west on I84, instead of heading towards Salt Lake get on I86 @ Heyburn heading to Pocatello. Take I15 south to McCammon, ID where the Flying J exit is. This will be US 30 and it will take you down to I 80 just west of Little America, WY. I despise Utah for some odd reason and the Port of Entry is much better in Kemmerer rather than going through Evanston. Too bad you're going back that way, I'm heading to Spokane for Wednesday morning, figured we could meet up. Happy trails all!

I love that US 30 leg! I saw a big herd of elk out in the pasture one cold winter morning, not too many miles inside Wyoming.
-
That route is your best bet, especially in the winter. The Sisters can be a brutal ride in garbage weather. I must confess though, I like it most for the Ranch Hand t/s in Montpielier, ID. They have the best greasy homestyle breakfast food around! I love the drop into Wyoming from Border Summit too. If you hit it right at sunrise you will never see a more gorgeous site.

Hey hey! Did anybody else notice that suddenly today, when you're driving and the qualcomm is "stationed" on the HOS screen...that you can SEE YOUR HOS??
I've been grinding my teeth over the times the stupid QC won't speak my remaining drive time, and today, there it was in big black font right on the screen. -
I sure haven't seen that. Do you have one of the newer QC's that is mounted up on the dash?
