I will be going to Schneider training next month, and am wondering what kind of truck I should expect to get. I know they run Freightliner Century Class, but does anyone know what they give to new drivers? Will it be an old junker, or something in fairly good shape?
What kind of truck to expect

Could be either... When you are issued the truck, you will probably be given a checkoff sheet and be with at least a few other drivers getting their truck assignments. I always suggest that you inspect the truck, then give the sheet to another driver and have them inspect the truck and do the same for him/her. They may find things you miss (in your excited state) and you could help them out by finding something unsafe or something on their tractor. Take your time and do it right. Everything that you can write up and get fixed before you leave is a feather in your cap and all damage found is less damaged to get blamed on you later. Sometimes you may end up with something less that stellar. MAKE IT YOURS! A dirty truck can be cleaned! Mechanical problems can be fixed! Take care of the truck as if you are buying it! You will be spending a great portion of your life in the darned thing, make it the truck you want, don't expect anything perfect. Expect the move in / maintenance process to last at least 24 hours or even longer if the truck is going into the shop for your write ups.

What i normally do when getting assigned a new truck is inspect it, Have someone else inspect it and then take pictures with my digital camera. I make sure that the pictures show the date and time on them and then save them. that way if the company says there is damage to the vehicle that was not there when you got the truck i can say different. i have pictures to prove that it was.

I had the pleasure of meeting a former Schneider driver who left after 4 months, they kept the driver down south without a working air conditioner, by May it was too much to stand, so make sure the HVAC is working, all of the preceding posters have good insight, as well.

I'll remember to take pictures and make a thorough inspection. Does anybody know if Schneider's equipment overall is kept up well? What is the average age of their trucks?
