Hi everyone. I am NC hillbilly's wife. Hubby just got hired on and I will be heading out with him in a couple of weeks. I am new to the whole trucking experience, my only real knowledge of the industry is from hitchhiking in the early 90s. Hoping to learn about what to expect out there and how to make this a good experience for both my husband and myself.
Thanks,
Angel3

The one thing I have learned in all of this in the 2 years my husband has been driving is that you have got to have patience, above all else. Communication needs to stay open or the relationship can start breaking down quickly. If you weren't before, you will quickly learn to be independent, sometimes to the point that you may forget to get his input on things because you're so used to doing everything for yourself. In my experience, it's made us stronger as a couple. There's never anything boring going on because he has an abundance of stories to tell me when he calls or comes home about his previous outing. And if you're not going to ride with him all the time, it helps to try to ride with him every so often to remind yourself of just how rough they have it when they're on the road. I've only ridden with my husband once, about to make my second trip out with him, and the first time was enough for me for awhile. At the time he was with a different company and things were more strict then about stops and stuff like that, but now he's with a different company and things are much better and more easygoing. It's lonely without him being there at home with you every night, but it sure makes you appreciate his TAH more and you quickly learn to spend that time wisely. I'm fortunate that a lot of my school friends have husbands that drive too and we help to keep each other sane when it gets to be too much. It helps to have that support base.
