I would say watch it on the 500 mile range. I make very good on my radius. less than 200 miles one way, then back. but it is my location & what is available to me at this time. when I first started I would not go over 100 miles from home. sound funny huh? well we had 300- 500 loads a day going 90 miles. did very well back then. when it slowed, it was bad for everyone. I got to thinking why limit myself ? why not run farther out ? tried it once than twice & thought , hey, this ain't bad. leave out on sunday afternoon drive 600 or so miles to ohio, sleep 5-8 hours unload, reload, be back in my area monday evening & unload monday night or tues morn & have made as much as working all week local. now I have been back to home everyday, only because it works, but that could change. driving a radius where your home every day is nice, but for me it is sporadic on the pay. 2 weeks ago. I did 11 loads in 4 day's. home every day.$3600.00 take home pay. last week did 4 loads take home was $1700.00 some weeks I'll take home $500.00 been looking into runing back o.t.r. though not all the time. besides I never went o.t.r. where I was not back with in 36 hours. for over 12 years every load I took out long the next load would be going right back to my home area. always ONE LOAD OUT, NEXT LOAD BACK HOME. I used to load up on fri, be up north on mon unload /reload back, then run local the rest of the week if needed. when I limit myself, I only hurt myself. I still limit myself, though. I am hard headed. :biggrin_2559:

    Thanks heavy,
That is a good perspective. I wanted to pay the insurance premium total to get a discount ($673.) for the 500 mile radius.
I will get a new quote for full 48 and see what the difference would be.
    More research !

it is great you are asking & researching before you dive in. saving the money on the 500 mile radius, can also be looked at this way. just 1 load going beyond the 500 miles could more than make up for the extra money paid out. best of luck.

There is a lot responsibilities the O/O has that the general public does not know. I still consider myself in that class until I am on the road.
Talk to a friend that just renewed his tags,( 9 states) but MISS. part was 90% , I guess it was because that was hes residence also.

After some praying and research I am considering learning and setting up a FREIGHT BROKER authority first, I am not sure about this yet,
But I think it could be a benefit to making the trucking company successful.

I see that others here are doing this also.

ANy thoughts out there about this?
