Recent CDL school grad. Got good grades. Past all tests, writen and behind the wheel on first try. Clean driving record, clean criminal record and clean on the alcohol and drugs. BUT have been laid off since Aug. 2008 and took a year to get into CDL school. Thats the history now the problem.
I was told today buy a trucking company that they couldn't hire me because of the last three years. Didn't matter that I have documentation and my former employer will verify My employment back to 2000 and the reason for my lay off. {was only temporary till economy tanked}. The lady said to get a job at a grocery store for 6 months then call her back at that time.
I have this perfectly good CDL A and am unable to use it. I don't want to waste this license. HELP! Any suggestions? The jobs seem to be there. I just can't have one. Have applied to most companys that hire recent grads. Thanks in advance

That's one of 450,000 trucking companies. Keep trying. Someone will definitely take you on. One thing that will hurt you is if you wait too long. More than a month or so after you go through school they will make you take a refresher course. So get crackin!

Do a lot of companies hold it against you if you haven't worked very much?? My first truck driving job will be the 2nd job I have ever had.

I would think that job stability is a good thing.

Happened again today. I thought I had to get going within 90 days. Been looking from day 1. Started with the list the school gave us. Then hit local companies. Most of them need between 6 months to 2 years. Then hit the companies that look for student grads.
Getting very discouraged, but not quitting. Have great job stability prior to this layoff. -
Keep knocking on door.
If all else fails, the oilfield could careless if you're a rookie or haven't worked in the last couple years. -

Congrats akdennis, good luck everything. I will give FFE a call. Just got the same from another company. Now I at least have a consistant reason for the sudden disapearance of apparently enthusiastic recruiters. I have to laugh but it hurts.
