One thing I haven't seen mentioned here is the amount of time it takes to get hired on with a good crude hauling company. I wish I would have known this before I moved 1300 miles. I have been in process for two separate companies for 14 days so far, and I'm still not technically hired on anywhere yet. It took one company 10 days to complete my background checks (criminal, work history and education) and it took the other 14 days just to complete the criminal. I did my physical for one company yesterday and have a physical for the other tomorrow. I'm still waiting on my work history to be completed at one company and my physical at the other. By the time I start with one of these companies it will have been 21 days since my sit down face to face interview. That is a LONG time for someone who put themselves WAY out on a ledge to try and land a good job. Also one of these companies required a 241 question psychiatric exam and a hair follicle drug screen as well as a cbc/chemlab blood test and a physical demands test. I fully understand and can appreciate the extra mile you have to go to get an upper tier company driving job, I just wish I would have known how long it was going to take because I'm really walking the razors edge financially being this strung out. Just something to keep in mind for anyone considering relocating for a good crude hauling job, be prepared to spend most of a month just in the hiring process before you set out.

Me99,
Just saw your post. I think I'm on with an outfit out of Midland, but if that craps out I will definitely give you a shout. Thanks.
Happy trails. -

and a physical demands test that included a bunch of different tests, some bizarre some logical. Took 5 hours to finish everything, and you can't eat anything late night before or morning of the testing. Will take TEN MORE DAYS for these results to get back to the company before the next step in the hiring process, which in fairness should be the actual formal offer of employment. So, this company will wind up taking 25 days from sit down face to face interview to formal job offer with zero dilly dallying.
On the plus side, the company I applied to in Lake Charles looks like they will be ready for me to start early next week, possibly Monday. I will be so glad when all this is behind me and I can get my ### back to work, I've never gone an entire month of not working in my adult life. -

I received my formal offer of employment today from the Lake Charles company (Sentinel) which is the company I wanted to work for! I start tomorrow morning at 8am. The first week or so will be just filling out paperwork and learning their systems. I was also informed that I will need to transfer my IL CDL to a LA CDL within 30 days so I went to the DMV to get the information I needed to start that process. Very excited!
