Sorry to bust your bubble, welcome to the real world. -
Not busting my bubble. It is what it is. A good investor is always looking at ways to make money.. This might not be it.rollin coal, SHC and lowjo Thank this.

Thinking you're going to make some easy money is a huge mistake. I can't imagine dealing with all of this if my heart and soul weren't entirely invested in it. That's whyso many people never make it in this line of work.

The responses on here may not exactly be full of tact, but they are honest and correct.
There's no way you could hire a friend to drive a truck and both of you make money.
Considering your buddy has 10 years experience, I am shocked he doesn't already know this, unless he is just attempting to take you for a ride.chompi Thanks this. -
Listen my Friend Im in SoCal too, and you have a bunch of NEW smog laws coming into Law into 2014. And you BETTER have a MINIMUM of a 2007 Truck with a 2007 engine. and im not sure what Load board you're looking at But the boards that "I" follow are only payin 700-2500 TOPS for that run that you are looking at.
Im NOT Baggin on you I promise. But take a look at some of the Boards and TRACK THEM for a period of time Not just 1-5 days. THEEEEEN you will begin to see what the real REAL rates are.
And there is a TON of stuff that you need to know..............your CA# Your MC# and 24 month safety program that you have inroll in thats MANDATORY.Insurance, what is your payment on the Truck going to be?
MY ADVICE......stay AWAY from VOLVO with VOLVO engines
Look at Peterbilt, Kenworth,, Freightliner FLD series
but PLEASE do some research before you jump in to this game cuz its NOT for everyone THERE is a lot to learn and im still learning.
Oh yeah are you willing or your freind willing to turn a wrench on football sunday when the truck needs new brakes, or wheel seal or you blew an air line or ripped a mud flap off, or tear into the head to replace an injector? if you have to pay a shop to do that stuff then say BYE BYE to your profit for the week. Or Heaven forbid you blow up the motor
do you have 10-15K to replace it?
You know how I learned all this stuff? at the School of HARD KNOCKS Compadre
Bueno Suerte,

dont sell that house just yet...........im sure he's wrong on that 1 LOL
unless he's Hauling HAZMAT radioactive or old missiles out of Pendleton, or the old Napalm offthe Navy base. And that stuff is LOOOOOOOONG gone

Just because a load pays 2k don`t mean it is a great load especially if you have to run 2000 miles to get it there. First of all figure out what the load pays a mile and then deducted about 1.17 to 1.20 cents off of that pay and that is what you will have left after fuel and driver pay. Well not your driver but I am figuring a driver getting .40 +/- per mile. And at that rate if you are not careful the driver will clear more then the truck if you don`t get a real good rate for the load.

A little update. Just got off the phone with a guy who is a friend of one of the producers i work with. The guy owns a heavy equipment rental places, he was suggesting getting a lowboy trailer and hauling his equipment and offering a good rate for clients who rent from him.I am going to meet with him tomorrow. what do you guys think?
-
Yeah there's good money in that but what kind of experience does your driver friend have? Also wondering, do you really know this guy? Do you know how difficult it is to find a dependable, reliable driver? These things are not so easy as it sounds. Still think you're getting in way over your head.
