If you get invited to orientation and pass all of the requirements, you have the job unless you manage to screw it up royally. And theyll pay for your ticket home if that happens.

Living in FL may be an issue. Freight going there is very scarce... You probably wont get home every weekend.

well if i can get the job i will be moving myself and family back to richmond va hoping that it will allow me to be home on weekends when permitted which i will move back there anyways with whom ever i get a driving job with.would prefer someone that does alot of hauling out of richmond va.plus i been thinking whats the point in doing driving school when you have to do everthing all over again with with whoever you go with with like redoing physical and redoing test

Driving school is one thing, OTJ training is quite another. You have to have a CDL license before you can proceed with the next steps, with any carrier. In the case of TMC, you will also be required to train on flatbedding before you hit the road. You will find out that in CDL school, you really learned nothing that will make you successful in the real world of trucking. You'll learn more and understand more following your first 2 days with your trainer/mentor than you would have in 6 months of CDL schooling.

I thought TMC also did orientations in South Carolina, as well ... Jacksonville might not be completely out of reach for home time but is far from ideal, too. Richmond would be good, but I wouldn't relocate until you've had time to make sure you're where you want to be company-wise and career-wise (at least 6 months) unless you just need to leave FL for other reasons.

it would be good if tmc did there orientation here in fl but from what ive been reading is it is all done in Des Moines IA.i can pass the test they give you at the local dmv to get cdl license but would need a truck inorder to do the pre inspection with.would tmc offer one of there trucks in order to do the pre trip with.just dont wanna get stuck with the cost of the driving school of roadmaster here if you know what i mean.an yes i have a good reason to moving to richmond to be closer to my family as my father just found out he has cancer and wanna be there for him when i can as i cant be here.i know with being otr road i wont be there ever day but when at home i will be

Most if not all carriers require you to be a driving school graduate..

Melton is ok I guess, but I doubt their flatbed training program is anywhere near TMC's if they even have one and you're going to need that, regardless. Again, I think TMC does (or used to) orientations in Columbia, SC however the facilities are not near as nice as Des Moines.

That is a link to a company in Emporia, Virginia. If you need to be in the Richmond area, it is a very good company. Hope you dad does well. If you find it possible to stay in the Jax area, try Cypress. I drove for them years ago. Good company also.

All new (student) drivers go to IA. Only experienced drivers got to SC and even then not all go there.
