Im kind of new at knight so I can't really say much, but, what I can do is state the facts. In orientation I was told that the sliding pay scale would increase my pay, but this week i've been running with knight like a crazy person. I must of ran 8 loads this week. Most of my drops were relays to yards and all under 300 miles.

And since you are 'new' they will continue to abuse you (except for an occasional 'good' run) AND, you wont complain about it becaue you are 'new' and trying to be a team player!

They will continue to 'abuse' you until you complain---and when you do, 1st they will threaten you and scare you because you are 'new' and dont want to have short job chgs on your record...then they will give you some decent runs for awhile, and then try to 'abuse' you again! Welcome to the club---we've (all former Knight drivers) have been there TOO!!:biggrin_2553:

My dm name is ren knight. He called me one day and said, if you have any problems, call me and ill help you out. I wondered, what if im at a receiver at 2am..will he answer the phone? Because I really did have a question regarding my hours of service. When my computer went down in the truck they gave me a log book and said to run on that until my qualcomm gets fixed. Its been 3 weeks and still they wont fix it.

I worked for a relative of his, Greg Knight, who was my 1st DM, then was promoted to El Paso Term Mgr, and eventually got burned out and left the co. (I think is now in SLC realty?) as most of the 'young' Knights have done in the past.

I'm familiar with the name 'Ren Knight,' and have heard that in the past has gone to bat for some of the drivers who were 'done wrong.' When I was there, he wasnt just a DM, but higher up.

Hope that is true about him since all drivers need a 'champion' at one time or another--I had a good DM go to bat for me, for parking in the street (legally along w/other trucks!) in an industrial area of Fontana, against a local Safety guy (aka 'jerk') out of there who tried to harass me when I came off the road for my time off!! 4got the Safety jerk's name, but heard last he was w/Knight in Boise (??)'

Again, good luck. BTW, I took any and all loads my 1st 2 1/2 yrs w/Knight and continually got screwed out of long runs until I met some Knight 'old timers' who told me to start refusing crappy loads, as they would continually 'use & abuse' me until I did!! It worked, but was hard for me NOT being a whiny crybaby or slacker.. But w/Knight, it's survival of the fittest!:yes2557:

My designated hitter is steven coda. That guy has an I can do anything attitude and usually picks the drivers up when they get ran over by the planners or dispatchers.

That name is familiar (been 3 1/2 yrs since I left Knight Phx), and my 'intuition' from my limited recollection is that I have 'good memory fuzzies' about that name! May be one of the good guys (?).

So, then he has been there for awhile. Most young DM's that they hire right out of college (w/no transportation experience) only last 3-6 mos B4 getting burned out and leaving. Usually they start work with a great attitude and then start losing it because of the pressures of their jobs, and end up (in many cases) becoming hard-nosed if they hang around...

I have been working for Knight for awhile, and sometimes I just have to wonder what they are thinking of! I had two short loads in a row, and when I asked for extra money, they said Yes! Dirty ########!

I asked to get home on a Wednesday (this is when I requested to get home, not when I asked to be home), and the ####tards are only going to get me home on Saturday! And then the SOB's gave me the choice of dropping the load in the yard, and going home, or delivering it (which would mean an additional day off, at home.)

No, they are not the best trucking company out there, by any means, but they are decent for a large OTR outfit.

Yeah, remember his name for getting me home (Phx) from CA on a Sunday night/Monday morn when the CA disps were ignoring me!

Think that he might have been a driver B4 being a DM (?). Which are rare at Knight Phx, since in the 5 yrs I drove out of there as Express, I had a total of about 15 DM's (once, 3 in 1 mo since Express was shuffled around!) and only 2 were previous drivers--and also were the better DM's.

A DM with experience and good standing with other DM's at other terms can make deals and pull strings to help out their drivers---i.e. you scratch my back, etc. Also good at 'making deals' for a local run with a good run back home. I played a lot of 'lets make a deal' while at Knight!:biggrin_2559:
