I have a 1999 Fontaine combo Ultra. I use it everyday with no problems. I would say if you are thinking of getting a used flatbed don't haul coals. Just too much weight in the center for something to break.

I have a 2006 Renegade 48' flat.
For some reason, the middle of the deck is slightly curved towards passenger side - the deck looks like ) if you view it from the top. It's only noticeable if you look closely, or see the trailer in the mirrors going down the road. I thought the previous owner jack knifed it or something, but I've seen another Renegade with the deck curved exactly like mine, so it could be some kind of manufacturing defect. That hasn't caused any problem but something to pay attention to when shopping, if you care.
It has LED lights from Peterson Manufacturing. They used very small-gage wires, and once the insulation wears through (from rubbing, pinching, etc), it doesn't take long before corrosion breaks the copper wires inside. LED themselves seem to be very reliable, but I've had to fix wires a few times even though the trailer mostly spent its life in Commie-phornia until I bought it last summer.
Other than those two issues, it's been a good trailer. -
I pulled a Great Dane 53' spread axle and loved it. I kept a close eye on it and seemed to be a well built trailer. I could load 46 to 48,000 on it and it still had a bow in it.
