Are these decent? Also, I'm not very knowledgeable with radios and accessories, but if I am running a factory, stock radio (Uniden 68XL), can I run an antennae which is said to be rated 1,000 watts? My truck has those cheap black plastic antennae that snap off all the time. Just wanted to put something out there that wouldn't break every week.

    Thanks for helping.

I've had the oil cooled antenna break also. It took a wack from a tree branch. Before the break it worked very well. I would buy something like the Wilson 2000/5000, or one with an Air Coil first.

In MY opinion, the oil cooled antenna is just a marketing gimmick.

    Especially a CB antenna.

I believe, I may be wrong, that if an antenna is getting hot to the point it needs oil cooling, there is something else wrong within the system.

Something to consider, when a trucks sits in extreme cold and the fuel gels up, imagine what that oil in the antenna wil do :biggrin_2555:

For a stock radio, and most "non stock", go with a Wilson or Firestik and enjoy

Maybe it's "snake oil" in those antennas. :biggrin_2559:

Used to run 1000w on a 20' whip, never overheated. But usually you run a xmit/rec ratio.

Not a CB, but a military radio.

Usually the oil is mineral oil,,, correct me if I am wrong..
