I have Galaxy DX 959 installed in a fiberglass motorhome......... same problems... high SWR readings.... poor trans and receive...
Bought a 4 ft Firestik NGP Antenna System and mounted it with the side mount ( came as a kit ) and that corrected my problems, SWR readings of 1.7 Channels 1 & 40 and a great 1.1 on channel 19. The kits also come with the mirror mount, roof mount or side mount.. you choose when you place your order.... mine cost $38.95 plus shipping from CB World... Good luck -
RF Parts is the best supplier of flat braid they sell it in different sizes and rolls
-
Or you can remove the braid from some old coax if you can't find any.

I found a 12 inch section at the local auto parts store. Comes tinned and with conncectors attached.

I forgot about wireman here is a link to his available supply http://www.thewireman.com/wirep.html#601
-
Thanks for the link. (I think I have saved that link before and just never used it.) -
Don't mean to be picky, but the "Lil' Wil" and the "Wilson 1000" are not the same antenna.

The wilson magmount will perform better on top of the cab than mounted on the mirror brackets
anytime you have groundplane under your antenna it will have an advantage -
I have the same setup in my pickup sitting in my drive way I can talk to my buddy 30 miles away almost everynight
