So no it is not about money!
It is not about picking on the poor truck driver!
It is not about your #### phone!
It is not about big government!
It is about preventing some pin head from killing 11 innocent people because and here I will quote you.
"The rest is intrusive"
Get over it. It is a #### truck not a phone booth. And no I know not to use my phone when it presents a distraction. My problem arises when people do not and kill innocent civilians with their ignorance.

I don't see a issue with cell phones if you have a hands free kit. I see a issue when I see drivers holding a cell phone to their ear for hours on end. As a driver, you multitask all of the time. If you cant handle multitasking, find yourself another career.
-
Exactly! I use a hands free device and it doesn't cause any problems at all.
I see dunces in trucks every day driving along weaving all over the road because they are texting...
In my opinion texting and driving should be treated the same as DUI and carry ALL of the same penalties!
As for phones in general....Hands free is not a problem.
I have been using cell phone in the truck since the 80's and have never even had a "close call" in traffic...In my opinion it's more to do with drivers these days not knowing how to drive with or without a phoneTHBatMan8 Thanks this. -
Well it is now obvious, there were zero crashes before the invention of cell phones. Guess the data of commercial truck related accidents continually falling is all wrong.
Before you go spouting more nonsense Tazz, I understand your point of view as well as most of the others in this thread. Most do NOT need a regulation such as this, the segment that DOES need such a mandate will only find something else to do while holding the steering wheel. -
Drug use cancer guns auto wrecks train wrecks plane crashes the evil doers tarriests and truckers with cell phones talking for hours on end xm radio cb radio cd players drunk drivers and kitty cats and spouses. How do I get through a day with out one of them getting me ? Its a jungle out there. I think we need more regs, laws stiffer penalties how about 24hr video servalence in our cabs with a 3 camera shoot wireless rarely tail sent to feds if you deviate out of the law you just blow up. After the 3rd offence of course 1984 1984 George Orwell. Do not fight the resistance please

were to start? about the hundreds of studies, first who paid for these studies? I think thats an important question to ask because most of them would be paid by people that want to ban all they can thats just a fact so for all those studies you speak of I bet we could find others thats dispute them.
Nor for the disable the phone software, how to you plan on it knowing if you are driving or just riding with someone? I know that if I am just rider I shouldnt have to suffer because a group of people what to ban every piece of tech there is.
As for the ruuuuup ruuuup, I get that when I sneez after all for a split second your eyes are closed for that or how about at the end of your day when you yawn because your getting sleepy just as you find a place to park?
As for laptops, thats a given how ever why stop there? lets ban all GPS's while your at it. I mean after all it talks to you while you are making a turn we cant have that now can we? I reiterate were will it stop? all it takes it one so called ban to have a negitive effect on every aspect of your life, I for one dont and never will need the DC cartel holding my hand and doing everything for me.
As for calling 911 thats all well and good, but did he get pulled over? I bet not hell I have called 911 to report drunk drivers and followed the drunk for miles snd guess what.....no cop even tried to come out. All I am saying is we need to be a little more realistic about what the goverment can do. I could shut down this whole argument or dicussion as it were by asking this, were in the constitution do is say they have the power to do any of this? guess what,it isnt in there. It can only be done by the states PERIOD full stop. Lets take it further shall we? Then we would have a different law in each state so then it would compound every problem just tring to keep up with 50 different laws in 50 states, woohoo that sounds like fun right? I am not tring to start sh&t with you I just need to point out that when you let fedvilla start doing this do you think they will stop there? hell no they wont and you should know that by now. It is all a matter personal resposability (spelling?) Do you really need big brother telling what you can and can't do? I #### sure dont. -
Hey TAZ how about all the 4 wheelers out here? You do know that they out number us right? Shall we ban them the same also? Were will it stop? you can not answer that because it will not stop, If you dont use a phone while you drive ( I have no way of telling if you are truthfull there) thats great for you, but do not shove your point of view onto others with a rotten attitude we all hear enough of that trash on the CB. As I have stated it is a personal responsabilty thing it should not be up to the fedvilla to hold your hand.
captw900 Thanks this. -
But the regs wont stop a accident from going down, by that logic there should be no more drunk driving accidents because it is against the law. -
It is not my hand I want held.It is stopping the imbeciles that think a phone call is more important than one of my children's life. I have every faith in my ability to not allow people to use me as the instrument of their suicide. I also on a daily basis see those trying to commit suicide on the highway. Some people call it piss poor driving. I think they lack a sense of self-preservation.
And if you would pay attention I advocate technology disabling phones when moving for all people. -
Actually. I find holding a phone to my ear to be quite uncomfortable. Hard on the elbow. Now, watching a driver, on the phone, trying to find let alone back into a parking spot while still on the phone is a bit more than unnerving! As the saying goes "HANG UP & DRIVE"! Used as intended a cell phone is a perfect near communication device. Perhaps we need to regress to the days of outragious roaming fees might just hit these folks in the pocket book. seems to be the lowest common denominator in our society these days
