Do you honestly believe that ink on paper (a law) will make the difference? I don't.

Sorry, I can't agree. If I am a passenger in a plane, train or automobile why should I not have the ability to use my phone as I please (or as I do now... hands free)?

At the risk of starting another "rant", let's compare our work place to a pilots. First, there are no airplane "pushers" that try to force a pilot to fly an unsafe plane. Second, the pilot's, as is the captian of a ship's word is final. Third, a pilot is NOT sharing the skys with totally untrained others. ( A private pilot license is no more than a license to learn). Forth, I have never seen a pilot load or unload his airplane. Hmmmmm wonder what's wrong here? More food for thought?

CF trucks, a speedometer, that's all, all the rest were "idiot lights" wish I had access to their accident rate, before they went belly up.

Love this discussion, & there are some very valid points & suggesdtions being presented, very good in my book. this is how things get done BEFORE the gubmint gets in the middle of it.

A big enough difference? No, kinda why I advocate the technology change. Although much like DUI penalties I would advocate some real punishment for those harming others while in violation of the law.

I do not believe anyone has a single call more important than a human life. That being my belief your having to come to rest in order to utilize your phone is a small inconvenience if the technology can save lives on the road. Maybe as technology advances we can make a determination as to when a person is operating a machine or just acting as a passenger.

Better not be using that phone when you are mowing your yard. Might be dangerous to Tazz's children.:biggrin_25518:

Has it his way and you will not be able to because it is moving. Not to mention using it while walking too.

Tazz is totally entitled to his point of view. The discussion that his and other points creat, without the cheap shots, are what really needs to be aired in order to try to come to a realistic conclusion. This is called "negotiation"! What a wonderful concept!

Nope never talked of mowing your yard. Nice try though.

Latest threshold for the technology I read about was 15 MPH but nice hyperbole fabrication. I would expect no less.

9axle Pilots are not allowed cell phones IIRC, nor are train Operators I believe after the commuter train debacle in DC. Might be off on that being finalized though. Kinda why I believe commercial operators should be held to a higher standard, just as Officers should(Who hasn't seen an Officer fiddling with his lap top, or diddling his phone?), Ambulance drivers, or people making their living on public roads.

You are out here to do a job all else is and should be secondary to that fact.

The problem is that he wants new legislation to alter the ability that you have to make a quick call using a handset. He is into control by any means.

I rarely make a call, but there are times when the phone rings and I talk for a couple of minutes. I do not hold the phone, nor do I really want to talk for any length of time.

Years ago, while driving, I received a call about a family emergency. Since I received this call, I was able to quickly make calls and change plans to immediately go home.

May not be important to some, but if people like Tazz have their way, there would have been no way to find out about this.

I am also able to talk on the phone and treat a patient in the ambulance. That is how we communicate with the hospital. Not hard to do both.

He can definately have his opinion and choice. I just do not see where it needs to be placed on others by bigger government and more regulations.

Exactly my point!!!! In your case, unlike the afore mentioned driver trying to back into a parking spot while on the phone, there is a valid reason. And as you said to QUICKLY make a few calls to change needed plans. All these things need to be presented. A total ban is as blind a reaction as is no reaction. To be truthfull, this entire dialogue has been created over ONE accident in KY. On top of that it's not even been verified that the driver was even alive when that truck crossed the median. No brake application, no corrective steering action, makes the waters a bit more muddy. We seem to be living in a knee jerk reaction society, what to do.... I wish I had a clue!!!
