Are you there now?
-
Yes I am. why?
-
I used to teach there on the side actually. I just lived at 10th and Sherman and its only 3 miles away. Its a decent school for a CDL mill, but after the 3 week class you wont really be anything more than a licensed rookie.airforcetoo Thanks this.
-
Not be a smart ### or anything but isnt that the point ? To come out of the school a licensed rookie ?
I understand some schools are better then others but in the end what more could he hope to get out of this ?
Now, c1 isnt my first choice after all i'v read about, but in the end the real training happens after u'v actually gotten out on the road, no?
Thats the impression I got so far. If theres more to it that i'm missing I hope someone will take the time to explane.
I'm a noob here so dont think I'm starting crap, just trying to figure it out.7122894003481 Thanks this. -
No offense taken, I know what you are saying. And yes, unfortunately CDL mills main goal is to get you that CDL, nothing more and nothing less. At C1, most of the instructors will never even show you how to couple or uncouple the trailer. Why? Because its not the on CDL test. So yes, that is the point of the school, to get you the CDL, but it definitely doesnt prepare you to go out on your own in a rig. Not in my opinion atleast. Very few of my students would have been able to go out solo right after the training.

So how would you compare it to any other school?
-
What was the physical like? Are they any big guys there?
-
Yeah, there are big guys; but, they are pretty strict with the physical. One guy got axed the first day cause he said he snored while sleeping, therefore he had to go and do a sleeping disorder study performed because it was possible that he suffered from sleep apnea. This other guy got axed the first day because his blood pressure was high. Just yesterday an older gentleman, after a week of school, got sent back because he had to do an echo scan. So, from what I understand, the companies that are sponsoring the education are not taking any risks. So if you even think you may have some sort of medical problem that may impede your driving, do yourself a favor and check yourself out first before you drive out here and get sent back the first day because you couldn't pass your medical examination.
PS - As soon as I get some time, I'm gonna post the summary of week one which was an overall good experience. So far it has been a better experience than a bad one. Until next time. peAce -
@airforcetoo. Thanks for the info on what you are going through. Looking forward to that first week. I was about to go with C1 myself. I think most people go there due to lack of funds. Thats why I was going to go there. I retired out of the Navy, you did check for VA funding didn't you? Just thought I would ask. How many people were in class?
I'm out,
Scott
