Contrary to your statement, I do take a shower everyday for the moment. If you think if/when you get to join the professional truck drivers on the road that you will shower everyday...then I would use your 27 year perfect driving record..and become a chaeffeur and drive a four wheeler, cuz it ain't gonna happen...
I for one am glad to join the ranks as I just graduated from the Stevens Driving school...today!!

27 years means as much to them as 27 hours. Hell I've got 12 years since my last ticket plus 4 years in a big truck hauling tankers, steps, double drops, oversize, etc and I couldn't get on with either one of those crap companies if I tried because I haven't been otr for so long. You have exactly 0 experience, bad credit, and have been teaching English in another country for about $200 bucks a week which to them means your unreliable because you didn't even attempt to earn more money to pay your bills. In the eyes of a recruiter, that means at best you won't hustle and at worst you will be late constantly and just not care because you'll be satisfied with 800 miles a week. Not really something they will be enthusiastic about. Your best bet would be to head to Midland as was already stated and hit the oil field. You'll make a LOT more money if you're willing to work.

Do what I did:
Apply for 5+ companies and let them fight eachother for my services. The first one that called me back was the one I went to drive for. -

You must be one of the genius who works in the office of recruiting for a trucking company. Fourthly, you have no idea what I made in Mexico City amigo. -
But I did see plenty of greaseballs in their. Guess I was too clean for Stevens. Unreal. All the other schools I have been applying through their online application. -

If the bottom feeder companies will not entertain your work history and tax records, perhaps there's another reason. For example, the federal government. The feds are the one who wrote those pesky rules regarding who can and cannot carry 80K pounds of goods over bridges, tunnels and over the roads. I believe the feds only require three years of past employment if you worked as a non-driver. If you previously drove a commercial vehicle then it's 10 years. Companies like Stevens and others can exceed federal requirement by asking for ten years proof of employment and verification. After all, they are responsible if something goes wrong.
Who and who cannot ride with pride was further ratcheted up after 9/11. While you have all your records some companies are not going to take a chance on employment verification from Mexico. Best of luck. -

Be prepared to not get a shower every single day, and you'll have to (at least temporairly ) join the great unwashed. This biz isn't for everyone, just keep that in mind when you look down on drivers who probably have years of experience of safe driving and make a good living and who may not get a shower 7 days a week. If we were concerned about smelling sweet then we'd go work at Macy's perfume counter, not go trucking.
