Huh? Do they not realize we dont work 9-5 like they do? We can do our job 24/7/365. Requiring two midnight to 6am periods to count towards the 36 would mean you have start your 36 hour period between 6pm and midnight. Starting anytime before that would mean you need to take more then the required 36 hours. Meaning you could be waiting for up to 54 hours before your time reset. And if you did not stop driving till 12:30pm, That too would mean you have to take a 53:30 break.

You won't see the changes . OOIDA and ATA will keep it in court for a couple of years . There is NO research data to support the changes .
The proposed changes were a payback for the Teamsters donating over $2 million to Democrats in 2008 . Sorry , IBT . The Republicans are in charge now .

These rules were under change prior to the donation. Republicans did the last one and were changing it prior.

If you think they are on your side, you will be having complaints in the future.

I don't recall the proposed changes in the restart or the mandatory break after 7 hours being proposed before Lautenberg demanded a "review "
I don't think any politicians are on my side . I don't have the deep pockets ATA and IBT have . :biggrin_25513:

They started on these rules because of court cases. There was talk of changing the hours of service in 2008 to 10 hour days. It was also going to remove the 34 hour restart. It was a proposal that thankfully died.

This crazy stuff proposed is just a return to what they wanted in 2008.

The complexity alone would lead to almost mandatory EOBR to keep legal.

Do you realize how many blank states I get from drivers when I suggest the split break? They usually say something to the effect that they don't mess with it. It's too confusing (for them)

Imagine the new confusions created with the new proposed rules.

The log book "experts" at the truck stop lunch counter are gonna have a field day at what they think they can and can't get away with.

if they wanted to do something positive they could make it so these companies have to pay us something equivelant to a minimum wage, which very few companies besides LTL and local companies do. this would be a payraise for virtually all otr drivers.

hell, ill even vote for the politician that gets it done, buying votes is how stuff gets done, right? my price has been named.

more hometime, being paid for all work, harsh enforcement on companies that break the law and/or mistreat drivers..stuff like that..

whatever their going to do,or not going to do,theyll do with or without me approving of it. for the record,im against regulations most of the time, but they CAN help.

    RickG Thanks this.

i think both of you are right!

i think the politicians are making it so its not as profitable for companies and O/O's to operate as OTR carriers, this has been happening for awhile now, companies have been switching their business models to be more and more regional to stay profitable.

where do i stand on this? i think its a positive shift for the american public AND the otr drivers. perfect? no,but i think there is a benefit for most if not all. i would hope that they know more about the abuse and mistreatment of otr drivers than the general public.

It has always been my opinion that when the trucking industry was deregulated they should have set a minimum rate per mile that would allow equipment to be properly maintained and drivers to get a decent pay .
It is a felony to falsify logbooks or to force or allow drivers to falsify log books . The DOT has prosecuted drivers and owners of small carriers . http://www.oig.dot.gov/search/apachesolr_search/log%20book%20falsification . Management of the megacarriers are above the law . When a Crete driver killed 6 kids and showed documented proof of continued pressure to violate HOS only the driver faced criminal charges . http://www.ntsb.gov/doclib/reports/2008/HAB0805.pdf
