Sysco is not a great company, they have there business mode to make money like anyone else which means they would rather run every driver they have 14 hours a day and pay overtime rather then hire the amount of drivers they actually need and have to pay for there benefits and retirement.

It all depends on the terminal you run out of but Cleveland is one of the worst. I never had a planned route under 12 hours and most days were between 12 and 16 hours. I usually has 14 to 20 stops and between 700 and 1100 cases. There are no such thing as directions or maps so good luck with that. The supervisors were very arrogant and pushed the drivers beyond there limits. They had all the drivers sign a no cell phone while driving policy and followed drivers they wanted to get rid of on routes and would call them until they answered then they fired them, of course they had the cameras rolling the whole time. If you called off sick they will randomly hire a 3rd party to watch you and make sure if you go anywhere its to the doctors or a hospital or else you can be fired for that to.

In reality for me it wasnt worth it for a decent paycheck. Sorting through hundreds of misplaced boxes and wheeling 400+ pounds of produce down a ramp wasnt worth it. If its for you then the compensation is excellent, many guys make 70k+ a year or more.

great info dotrp. you are right on. the digging is just part of the job lol. i do local runs-- no more then 45 miles, and i still put in over 60 hours. did the cleveland guys who ran local have 12 hours days too? thanks

Next time you see a food service truck unloading at a restaurant, take a good hard look at how it's loaded......then ask yourself if you want to deal with this every day.

Everyone I know had at least a 50 hour work week with the average probably around 60 hours. I never had a week under 55 hours in around a year working for them.
