Now that I have my truck and bobtail insurance the next decision we have to make is having the company we will be leasing our truck to supply the plates or to get the plates in my home state of NC.

If I get plates from the company we save the NC 3% taxes?

If we pay for the plates from the company do we keep them if we leave?

If we get NC 80k lbs plates its 1200 is each year is that the same in most states?

The company will spread out the plate costs over many weeks.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    my new truck...

Congrats on the new volvo. If you let the company get the plates then you do not get those plates if you leave that company. They will be in the companies name and they will not allow you to take them. Here in Indiana plates are $1800 to $2100. I personally just get my plates through the company. Its just easier for me. Good luck and agian congrats.

thats a old usx truck.. dang that looks just like my truck.. mine is a 06 is yours a 07...?
and don't forget that if you get your own plate you will have to pay the 2290 before you can get the plate that will add $550. will the company pay that and take it out over time or make you pay it up front...?

Most companies require me to get the 2290.

It is an old USX 07 with 524k miles.

    Cant wait to get rolling.

it dont matter who pays for the plates, they follow the carrier, not the truck.

Not much diff really.....If co. buys plate, you pay weekly. Buy it yourself, pay all at once.

company buys plate and you pay weekly and 8 months later you leave company they keep the plate and you have nothing for the money you spent, why rent a plate..?

you buy the plate yourself and 8 months later you leave the company you take your plate with you to the next company.

for us the company plate was $1600 and i paid $1475 so getting my plate saved us $125
