But from what I have been reading they did tell the drivers that they could continue working if they went to work for Celadon or Con-Way. Playing devils advocate, that sounds rather generous on their part when they could have told you to just beat it! So if you turn around and refuse to go to Celadon whos fault is it really that your out of work? You could have just gone to Celadon for awhile while you look for new work if you didnt like it there!

The warning signs have been visable for over a year.
Drivers really need to make better use of their time on the internet.
Almost no reason to end up at a company that already has 1 foot in the grave !!!
Alot of Arrow drivers were also warned, but continued to work there........ -
Gainey is another excellant example...........

I want you to closely read this:
We are offering jobs to the (FFE) drivers as long as they meet our criteria, Russell said. Our business is basically consistent with what their folks did in the dry van division at American Eagle Lines, which was the dry van division of FFEX.
Key words and phrases "meet OUR criteria" and "basically consistent"
Which means piss in a bucket, if it was a true smooth make-over Russell would have said "All FFE drivers will be taken into our fleets at thier current pay and with credit for their years of service to FFE, and we would like to welcome them to the happy Con-Way family"
Russell is allowing them to all be new hires at Con-Way. So let's say you have five years at FFE and make.... I haven't a clue, .38 cents a mile, you get new hire status at Con-Way and make , once again, I don't know, .31 cents a mile.
Great idea right? That also doesn't cover lost extra pay, such as bennies, 401k, vacation, etc etc.Lonesome Thanks this. -
"Years of Service"..... Don't you mean weeks, or months ?

Being the "Old Man" with 36 days, three hours and 24 minutes of service. This isn't ENGLAND we are talking about right??

Yea did the same thing to me. I was under a load from FT. Worth to NY. Was told to stop by the yard on the way out. Walter Black wanted to speak to me about something. Got there and was told to be at a meeting at 1400hrs. At meeting was told that my truck was being moved to another division. LTL Had to be out of it by 0700hrs next morning. Go with Celadon or go home. I was an FFE driver not Lisa or Eagle. So if they need your truck it won't matter who you work for or how long you have been there, your out. A lot of good people got screwed in this mess. Funny thing is the people who messed it all up still have jobs. So whatever comes out of all of this it won't be any better. I figure a year or two and they will be out of business or bought out. There's no way they can stay in business the way that place is run. Any way I am shooting for Unemployment and looking for a new job. Good luck to all those drivers who got caught up in this. Maybe I'll see some of you out there somewhere.

I ran into a driver who got "screwed" by FFE about two weeks ago, obviously upset and discouraged. I just wish these companies would give straightforward and direct warning to their drivers before these types of layoffs happen. Not just to warn the drivers as a whole, but notify them one by one. Give em' some time to prepare for their next move and not be stuck on the side of the road...
