Thank you Very Much the reply; this provides me with fresh sources of information for me to research.
I also Just Discovered that Chesapeake will take a student driver. They posted on monster dot com. They need drivers and will consider ALL EXPERIENCE LVLS... /nod
Well on to my research thank you sir...
Quick Note: You said Halliburton, Schlumberger, Cal Frac, Frac Tech, Pumpco; These companies hire for Drivers? I mean where driving is the position hired for? I'm under the impression, they are looking for people to hump steel all day on a well. Please Respond.

Thanks so much for the informative post, AC22. This is the type of meat many of us are looking for these days. I know I definitely need leads to more companies that are willing to take on a newb like myself. These forums can get a little scattered at times. That being said, I do appreciate any and all information that you all share. I know many of you are actually busy working, so just know that we are thankful for your time on here. -
You got a Hell of a lot to learn about the oil industry. But the first thing is they don't want whiner, wimps, union types, etc. If you want to WORK the hours and jobs they have then they will fill your pocket. They don't give a #### about your impressions. Make a hand or move along. There are those that will.

Since my impression was coming from an adventitious point of view. Would it not be prudent to ask on the forums? ie..DOT driving skills vs learning mechanical well skills. Most of the big trucking companies request DOT driving years when you fill out the application. This of course is for future options, as I have acquired no DOT years as of yet.Last edited: Oct 27, 2011

fyi, with halliburton and schlumberger you will drive the equipment out to the job or rig and then spend hours rigging up, running the job, and then rigging down and cleaning up the site. then you will drive back to the yard, wash the equipment and get it ready to go out again. your driving will be minimal. most of your job will be rigging up and rigging down and running the pumps and equipment during the job.

Good point. They do have you bang iron most of the day and they consider the position "operators" not drivers. BUT that is experience because you have to drive to truck to location. Much, much less driving that the other I listed but it is great oilfield experience. Safety is a must with those big boys and generally those companies look good on applications. All of those companies have some guys that are just equipment transfer people and they don't really bang iron all day. Those jobs are usually earned and not handed out to newbies.BigJohn54 Thanks this. -
You hit the nail on the head with that one! Make a hand or move along.

thats wath i read on this orum they have the tendecy to look 4 drivers but in reallity you spend most time as a rigger specially haliburton its your option like ACC mention there is no other way but with o/o or door by door

lol, give the guy a break, he just wants a job that involves mostly driving.
Go find companies that "haul water". Lots of those companies will have a few kill trucks or a pulling unit (basically a small rig on wheels) where if you get sent out in one, you'll have to lay iron down and JUMP when a company man even looks your direction if you know whats good for you. It doesnt mean you'll do it often, i been here a little over a month and there has only been 3 times where ive had to bust my butt a bit but its nothing in comparison to what ive done in the past and i find it an extreme privlege to jump as high as i can for a company man. They arent bozos from college who "know it all", they are guys who busted their butt for a long time to get where they are and they really know their ####, so i consider myself lucky when a company man looks in my direction with his poker face and instructs me to come his way just with a little finger wiggle lol!......and man, the dust flies off my boots!
If you dont even want to deal with that, then find companies who just haul water and nothing else. Its about as cushy as it gets unless the idea of dragging out a 4" hose a few times a day is daunting.NDBADLANDS Thanks this.
