You forgot about 'ol Schinder too lol!
Hire I don't know, but train yes. They are "starter" companies that hire student drivers with no experience. They are also pretty good to stay at for some time as well. TMC and Maverick are flatbed and it doesn't matter if your a newbie or not. They will teach you what you need to know. If you don't mind the extra work then flatbed isn't so bad. If not go dry van at the others I listed.
The easiest way to weed through all the crap posted is if someone post all this negative and never post again or doesn't answer any questions about what happened then that post can be discredited. But when there is SO much negative posted about a certain company one should stop and ask themselves, it walks like a duck, talks like a duck well I'm going to have to say it's a duck. Every company is going to have pros and cons like any company in any industry. I would just stay away from the ones that are talked bad about ALL the time.

88m.....I was curious about what assistance you were getting after the school. By local I'm guessing you were talking about Decatur..Bridgeport areas?
Other posters here have mentioned getting hired right out of school for hauling water. Some of that is Midland/Odessa area however. Have you checked Schneider for their oil field driving jobs for new graduates? That may be more south TX. but not certain. -

Yea, I want a local job hauling water (or ANYTHING) but I've come to the conclusion that oil field won't hire women. Not even determined, hard working, clean driving record, no criminal background, poverty stricken, loyal, prompt, VETERAN, need-a-dang-job women. So....guess I'll go out on the road. (I'm a little irritated in case you can't tell haha)
So I can't decide which company to go with - I read good & bad about ALL OF THEM! But it will be one of the hire-you-out-of-ATDS companies like Scneider, Werner, TMC, etc.
I paid for PART of ATDS out of pocket. Part of it was paid thru my GI BILL (I am pre-911)(if you're post-911, you can get the whole shabang paid for).
Susan, at ATDS, will help me find a job but I think she's pulling for the big companies that support the school - does that make sense? I still email her every week telling her I want a job. She will get me on in a minute with one of the three I mentioned earlier...but I really want oil field...but I need experience...oh the vicious cycle!!
OK, well I hope this post makes an iota of sense...my husband WILL NOT stop talking so I can type...!! haha SORRY!!! -
I have seen women out there....just most women don't want to do it....

88m.....have you tried Stallion Production Services in Decatur? May be your applications will turn up a job soon. I have ATDS in mind and may decide soon when to get going.
88M on 287 Thanks this. -
I was actually looking at Stallion's site this morning. They require experience as well. Thank you Patt! oh & ATDS was a lot of fun for me - and I learned A LOT! The experience itself was awesome. Just like anything else, it's going to be about your attitude. Go in on time, ready to work & you'll earn their respect. And it really goes by quickly (TOO QUICKLY if you ask me!) once you're out of the classroom. I see you're from North Texas, do you mind if I ask where?

From what some say you just have to go ahead and apply. They all want experience but always exceptions. I'm presently in Kaufman county just east of Dallas. Was born 20 miles south of Waco...moons ago.

I am a recent grad from ATDS. We had women in our class there that were treated just like one of the guys. Also, you can hire on with Schneider to work in the oil fields with no experience and you will be on salary. Next year Schneider will hire 4,000 new drivers for the Schlumberger account alone. They also have Exxon, Shell, GeoSouthern and soon to have Haliburton.
I just finished orientation with Schneider Bulk to be a tanker driver in Victoria. We had a female in our class there too. She did well during the week of training in Dallas, but just today she was let go when she had a panic attack and froze up after climbing onto a tanker. It was a bit cold today in Houston and slightly windy so I'm sure that was a factor.
I'm told there are not very many women working in the oil fields but it's not because they aren't given the opportunity. If you feel comfortable with heights in adverse conditions then please give it a shot. -
This post was very helpful. I don't live far from the ATDS office and am seriously considering training for the CDL.
