A couple of weeks back I got out of my truck and helped a fellow driver in a tight Truck Stop. There was no way he was going to get into the spot without a spotter or getting out 50 times. Five or six other "professional" drivers just watched. And I'm the rookie on here.
Can't wait for the real trucker drivers to stand up and help out the new drivers, but I'm beginning to think they are all on their cell phones driving down the road tailgating another driver and telling them to get out of their way on the CB when they are doing 10 over the speed limit. Guess it wasn't fast enough for them.
I'm still amazed and the super truckers on this site. All of them had their CDL's when they were born and have been running legal paper logs since Jesus sold them their truck. Give this driver or any other driver who is in an accident the benefit of the doubt until the facts come out. If this driver was dangerous or irresponsible then be my guest crucify him, but before you do look seriously at the way you drive first. Do you tailgate? Do you follow the speed limit ALL the time? Do you back up perfect hitting the hole without a pullup everytime? Do you warn other drivers on the CB everytime you see an issue? I could go on, but I don't see the sense of it. The super truckers on here will always see themselves as gods gift to trucking until they have accident that they couldn't control or finally get nabbed by LEO for "legal" logs and 15 miles over the speed limit, tailgating, and driving in an unauthorized lane. But I guess it's not their fault, it was the government and their regulations that were unrealistic.

to tank: here,here...I agree with ya...
hell I am new and I don't claim to know everything...and I never will...I had problems backing when I went out on my own for the first week or two..but as I progressed my confidence got better and I progessivly got better backing...but I know it happens to all of us (supertruckers excluded cause they know it all) everynow and then we just have problems putting that trailer where it belongs...hell I have been at truckstops and just given up and went down the road and boom in like flynn... we need to help each other rather than just stare and call names because we were all new once and starting out...just now there are some that forgot that.. -
As for backing, it's never been my strong suit. I have very poor depth perception which makes it even harder. I can remember when I was a newbie and even a rookie drivers would get on my case about backing. I've never been someone to take abuse so I would have my say to which at least one driver would give me encouragement instead of lip. So to all you newbies all I can say is hang in there.

there we go some positive reinforcement... all you out there old and new keep up the good work... get the load there on time, safely
get the miles, get paid and get home -
Any word on how the truck driver in this accident is doing ??

If the truth be known, all of us 'old timers' have just as much trouble backing on some days as a rookie. Just not as often.
I get tired of Sammy Super Stud and his Long Nose Pete giving crap to the newbie out there who is usually embarrassed to death that it takes six shots to get it in the hole.
We all had to learn. We all struggled. I just wish some of us old timers would remember that and have some empathy for the newer drivers, instead of insulting them with monikers like, "steering wheel holder" or "bottom feeder seat warmers".notezbngrn71 and Chirt Thank this. -
