Man, that's a long WB for such a small sleeper. Does it haul alot of oversize loads?
-
Hi, its used to have a picker, which was replaced by a winch. Its used in the northern Canada bush hauling oilfield equipment and supplies.
The sleeper is designed to be tough for offroad conditions, as there is a lot of stress on the truck and bodywork as it hurtles down gravel and ice roads fully laden. The truck and chassis are very hardy as it frequently has to be dragged out of the lease by a dozer or other heavy duty tracked machine!
First picture is the winch tractor pulling a rig sub.
Second picture is a dozer pushing a different winch tractor to get it positioned to drop its load. It will no doubt be pulled out of the mud by the same dozer.Attached Files:

Just bought it this spring. It used to be an OTR with a sleeper.

pete im movin out of the way when i see that truck flyin by me nice truck what year is that ?

This is not the actual truck (don't have any digital photos of the one I drove) but it is the largest of the vehicles I have driven in the Army, including in Iraq, unless you count tracked vehicles.
It is called the Palletized Loading System. The truck and the trailer have a payload capacity of 16.5 tons each and the deck comes off of the truck for ease of loading and drop and hook operations. The truck is used to load the trailer. Basically we pull a pallet on the truck, back up to the trailer then slide the pallet onto the trailer. Then we can pick up another pallet, hook to the trailer and be off. It is 10x10 wheel drive and the 1st, 2nd and 5th axles steer. It has a 500hp Detroit (not sure of the model) and an Allison automatic. The tires can be automatically inflated or deflated for off road use from the cab and in the case of a flat or an IED strike, the flat/busted wheel can be chained up and we can keep rolling on the other nine wheels. That's if we don't have time to change out with the spare.
I have a picture of my father's old KW cabover which is what I drove before I joined the Army. I will post it when I can get it scanned.

The big ol black X is a '02. If that one flys by you it won't be me. Sold it to my cousin last month. If I fly by ya in the white/red short hood... you're broke down. Hahaha
Thinking about selling her too and driving a company flatbed again.
I dunno. -
Hey L.B., if your still around, is that what is called a Hemat or do I have my military acronyms all wrong again? Just curious, I have only ever seen one or two.
-
Close! A HEMTT is an 8 wheel drive rated to 10 tons. That is a PLS 10 wheel drive rated to 13tons. Just a bigger version with more bells and whistles. It's really a cool loading system.
