Well dont know if this is the right section to update or not but had to tell somebody. Those of you that have read previous post, thank you, know I've been waiting to hear from a flatbed Co Owner. Well today we had our meeting and I got the job! Get my permit and give my 2 weeks to current job and I'm out! Great guy, more than willing to train. Last detail to work out is pay said he will have that for me at end of week, but he did ask what I would need to meet bills while training so I think it will be fair. He is also looking to buy a few new trucks at the 1st of the year with a possiblity of me getting assisgned 1. Right now his drivers are lease drivers so no one in line for the new trucks.
I know almost too good to sound true, but it is....flatbedding here I come![]()

What did you tell him? If you "low balled" it.....could be why you got the job.
I ask, because.....if you told him you could get by on like $350.00 a week....the man saw dollar signs for HIM. If you said $700.00 a week, and he took you on---you can expect himto be "fair".
You don't know what to expect....he does. He holds all the dice dude.
Regaurdless....good luck. -
Do not give notice until a wage is agreed upon!!!!!

Please tell me this guy has many, as in over 20 trucks running. Otherwise he may find you are not insureable. Don't quit your job until you have EVERYTHING finalized, since believe it or not, some small guys can be far worse than Megacarriers.

That is a No-No
That is more or less a tatic to get you to talk about salary first, and how much he/she can shave off of his/her beginning offer.
I never mention anything about money at any given job opportunity. I always let them speak up first

Good Luck !!!

I once got hired, interviewed first, selling cars. Bossman said, " what's the bare minimum you need to get by on ?" I said $250 a week. Guess what my checks were ? $250 a week......He may be stalling just a tad to see what's the least he can pay you, and/or, interviewing more potential drivers. He should have had a figure when he interviewed you, shouldn't need days to think about it.

Don't want to sound negative and am very happy for you but you need to be very careful when dealing with owner operators of small companies. They have a tendency to not pay you and then leave you on the side of the road. If I were you I would do as much research about this guy as you can. Don't jump into this blindly. Talk to his other drivers first. Check with the BBB or Chamber of Commerce in his area.
Like I said I hope you don't take this the wrong way just make sure you are going to get taken! It happens quite often out there.
The only other thing is that if doesn't work out you will most likely have to go through a school in order to get a job with anyone else.
Hopefully I am wrong, and I really hope I am. Congrats to you and wish you the best. Keep us all posted.

I'm going to try and stay positive and just say Congrats on the new job and hope it all goes well!
123456 Thanks this. -
The ONLY benefit for him out of this deal is you're cheap help. Remember that.
