I use my GPS as a secondary source also. I have a TD510 and, while it is pretty accurate, it is not perfect. I also have MapPoint on the computer and use Google Maps to look at satellite view and compare what I see with customer directions and to see if there is likely to be parking available at or near the customer. Like the others, I like the GPS for distance to go, ETA for delivery and for a quick alternate route if I need to detour.

GPS-less drivers will eventually go the way of glow plugs.

When I ran OTR, I used mine mainly for the "next road" function so I could seethe name before I got to it. I'd always call the customer and get directions and then look up the streets on my GPS and it comes in very handy knowing the street nes before u get to them!! Now this was back in 03' and a GPS was about $900 then and the size of a work boot lol.....now it's just common fair. I only use mine now for ETA as I go to the same place every day.

last winter had a job that the gps was the only way to go to where you need to be
    all I had was coordinates
go .5 mile in this field to find the spot, cross the stream first!

now I use the where am I button to make a comment in the log for nearest city, etc.

I like that Google Maps and Earth but today I was helping a friend and when she got to where she needed to be in Bethlehem Pa which wasn't on my old copy of a well known routing program as the whole industrial park wasn't built when the program was published. After she got settled in the lot I was looking at my home and it was funny because that street view was different from the overhead! The overhead was this summer which I could tell from my 2 new maple trees and the new vents on my roof that were put in 2 months ago, but the street view was from July 4th 2007! My neighbor across the street was still there, my roof had the new shingles on it and the flags around my yard light were still there! He moved just after we both had our roofs re shingled and took his camper and boat out west!

Take what you get on the internet or a GPS with a grain of salt!

If you can't find that chemical plant or refinery without a stupid GPS, you don't need to be driving a truck!!
I still have not found a need for one of those toys.
