Um, I'm just a soon-to-be-retired fed so I might not know much, but those numbers are pretty darned close. "As little as 13 days" and "As much as about 2 weeks"...?

I meant 3, I think I was typing between bouts of running to puke.
-
So you're saying a PSD student can finish in 3 days? Probably not. My question was for the fellow who started PSD without a CDL. Does it take about 4-5 weeks for them to get a paycheck?
-
Yes you don't get a PAY Check till you have your CDL and out with a trainer not a instructor. You can take a advance but that will be deducted from your future pay checks
-
There's a word for folks like you. S******s.

13 days, 3 weeks. Depends on how much you drive. 100 hours wheel time.DenaliDad Thanks this. -
Why don't you PM Sazook about this? He's an instructor, and actually drives a truck for a living.DenaliDad Thanks this.

I dont know about using a car GPS system for a truck because it doesnt recognize low clearance bridges and overpasses which seem to be rampant in the Northeast... I would definitely recommend shooping for a reasonably priced trucker GPS.
-
If you get to the point where you REALLY need to rely on the thing because of being turned around (aka lost,) unspecified detours - especially in the middle of the night, you really don't want to rely on a cheap car GPS.
None of the "trucking GPSs" are 100% reliable either, but its a better bet than hoping a TomTom won't lead you down something with a 10' clearance. -
You do one week at Prime for an orientation and to work on your pretrip. You have to do 2 weeks minimum with an instructor on top of the 75 hours. Your instructor can keep you longer if he feels the need too.
Then you come back here. Your time on the pad learning backing and testing could take another week.
If you have a trainer already lined up you can leave with them the day you get your CDL.
Once you are on a trainer's truck, you start making your $600/week.
So you are looking at a minimum of almost 4 weeks. With a possibility of more.
Key words.
The only one I've heard anything decent about is the Rand McNally and I have little interest in spending anything over $300 for a GPS. Even with those, I've heard of them leading on routes that aren't truck legal and routes with low bridges.
Nothing beats an atlas. Your GPS is nothing more then something that tells you how many miles are left.
Keep in mind also, most GPSs might route you differently from the Quacomm directions and as a company at least, you have to follow the Quacomm.DenaliDad Thanks this. -
My POS TomTom does very nice, thank you.
Very cheap, and hasnt failed me in over 3 years.
I dont trust it, but its has its usefulness on trip planning, and interstate travel.
