Get off your high horse. Hard fact: Hand delivered a hotel receipt from when his trainer's truck broke down in OKC...which STRADDLED TUESDAY. Paycheck gets dinged for the full amount of the advance. Then the following week say they can't find it. Yes, we had it fixed, and the money was routed to his card. Mistakes happen. And YES, the trainer should have paid for the room, but he is not the best of business men, and didn't have the money. The FM advanced him the money on a daily basis. If he had known THEN, he would have walked to the TS everyday and scanned in the hotel receipts. Now, he knows.

Hard FACT: The entire trip from Broken Bow - Ochelata - Spring Mo didn't make it on to the check, because the scan didn't go thru. Yes it will go on next week's check, but in the meantime, MY portion of the check gets dinged. INCLUDING the tolls.

Sometimes it takes a bit to get in the swing of things. This is his second full week solo. I was just trying to find out WHY no OK PikePASS. Now I know. One of these years, maybe all the roads will be on the same pass.

That is the issue for me, not reimbursement of the expenses. I am certain that others have critical factors that would or did sway their opinion of this company or that.

Apparently, I have been less than successful in communicating that someone else's opinion of what I am considering (things like leasing, PikePasses, hometime, and such) really isn't that important to me. I don't care what anybody thinks about my thought process or what I am considering--those are my responsibilities, alone. I care a great deal about the expertise of many drivers here and getting that expertise in a reasonable discussion. I use that reasonable input to make up my mind. Like an adult. You tell me what I shouldn't do and I'm going to ignore you. You give your insight and I drink it is. It's simple, really.

Call your state representative and senator!

...and make sure JCW knows when 1600 on Tuesday is in every time zone! :biggrin_2559:

Well said, U2. Those of old enough to have grandchildren living far away understand how big that inconvenience is. I want to minimize it as much as possible in the years I have left on this earth. As I said just above, I don't care a bit about reimbursement of the tolls, though it certainly would be easier not to have to worry about that. My concern is that 4%...if I can't get to OKC very often with one company but can with another, I have a decision to make.

And it is my decision, alone.

    Denalidad...

The toll issue has absolutely nothing to do with your ability to get to OKC to see your family. You just put in for home time and they'll get you a load there. Think about this... there are 48 lower states that we run through... Oklahoma is only one of states. That is 1/48 = .0208... about 2.1% of those 48 states, and we put 4% of our toll miles on in that one state. There are a number of packing plants we pick up and deliver to, a couple of prepared food places, and I can't remember how many small grocery DCs I've been to. Freight into and out of Oklahoma is not an issue for this carrier.

We deliver to the Walmart DCs in Oklahoma all the time... getting you a monthly trip to Oklahoma will not be a problem. I've been to both Pauls Valley and Ochelata a couple of times in the last 60 or so days.

    DenaliDad Thanks this.

DD, I have kids, no grandkids. And not in any hurry for those! While out with the trainer, JCW did come thru the state a fair amount. Even stopped at the Midway on I-44 one night when they had LOTS of time, and we snuck in a few hours to visit.

He's passed us by a few times, the reset 60 miles from home SUCKED, but we know better for next time. It was the weekend, and the dispatcher was painfully slow. I foresee a large amount of gravel being hauled in here so that these issues are not issues anymore. I would have gone to him that day, but that's the week we got dinged on hotel expense, and I didn't have the extra gas money to get there.

All that being said. He is enjoying the job. Yes, it IS hard work. And YES, he is having to learn a LOT (old dogs, new tricks). And YES, he calls me when he misses a turn (silly man). No more customer staring at him while he works on the car. No more ************ boss trying to get him the halfa** a repair. His stress level is way down, and he is happy about the job. We know that being away from home is part of the deal, and we don't have to LIKE it, but we can deal with it.

Only you can make decisions for yourself based on your own situation. And everyone's situation is different. Right now, I'm socking pennies away for a car for the kid that leaves for college in 20 months (/cry). And everyone is trying to make me get in that truck to go out w/ JCW for a week or two. Guess who needs to learn to drive first? Yep, that kid.

Um, any tips on teaching a girl how to play the clutch and gas off each other in a 1996 Ford Escort? I'm failing miserably.

JCW delivered to Ochelata, went to Broken Bow, up to SpringMo, and then down to Paul's Valley in less than a week. The trip OUT of Paul's Valley was shortish, just down to San Antonio, but it set him up for the 1600 mile trip he just got handed...that is scheduled for delivery on Tuesday 9am. So, YEY, the little one gets a fun dinner out on her birthday (Veteran's Day).

Um, having raised five daughters to adulthood, I can say with a certain degree of expertise that you have bitten off a large chunk. Trying to teach a teenage girl something--ANYTHING, really--is akin to teaching old dogs new behaviors. Only less rewarding! And I have no suggestions for you, just a lot of empathy. :biggrin_25520:
