- I have a 2003 pete with a cat c12, 5 months ago #2 injector went out 2 days later #5 next day #3 a couple days later #1 this continued untill all had failed within 10 days. All were replaced,as they went out. But it never had the power with the new ones that it had before but at least it ran smooth.Now it is starting all over again 12 days ago #3 went out, then #5. so i went ahead and changed all of them, but now it misses and has lost so much power it won't pull a load over 50mph. I have to run 9th gear pulling a load hit 10th it just quits pulling. I have changed the ecm,fuel pump,fuel filters,fuel lines all sensors,ran overhead, fuel pressure is 90psi, no contaiminates in the fuel.Checked the exhaust system it's clear. Any ideas as to what i can try next. I changed the ecm after the first set of injectors as i thought it may have been an over voltage problem.All work was performed at a cat dealer the first time but this time i changed all the injectors, will not having the right injector codes or trim files cause them to go out. wiring looks ok, and i wouldn't think all the wires went bad all at once. I'm thinking that the codes or trim files were not updated at the shop but i don't no if this would cause these problems.don't really understand how important these codes are or if you can just buy an injector and put it in ????????????

It sounds like either air or water is getting in the lines. If nothing was in the filter, then possibly the line. Possibly the connection at the pump or T or union before it or even a crack inthe line acting like a check valve is why you haven't notcied it?

Sounds like water went through them. How are they failing, electrically or mechanically?

did they change the injector cups?

they failed mechanically. didn't change the cups as far as lines and connections i disconnected fuel line and ran a short piece into a 5 gallon bucket.it still ran the same - then replaced all lines and pressured them with air and sprayed all connections w/ soapy water no bubbles. I got 2 more injectors on the way. I'm going to put them in and take it to the cat shop and try to get them to put the codes in, but i don't no if codes go in the injector or in the ecm

It will be necessary to record the trim codes and installed position of each injector. The tech will then enter trim codes into the ECM according to their installed position.

Are the trim files and injector codes the same thing and the fact that i just bought them and installed them in no certain order and didn't have the codes put in make it run rough and have low power

The injector codes are put in the trim file to compensate the differences each injector will have. Yes, there will be differences in fueling between cylinders if they are not properly trimmed. It will never run right without trimming. The key to preventing mechanical injector failure is proper filtration.
If you install a set of injectors untrimmed, often times several of the injectors will pose as faulty injectors causing a missfire or smoke, when in fact they aren't really bad, just not properly installed.
If you run them without trimming and carbon up the injector tips, this could also cause failure.Last edited: Nov 4, 2011
