And here the Pre Employment Rules of Tests Requirements

No where does it say anything about admission. Results have to be backed up by a test.

Lol, the unhappy faces are the : (

He didn't refuse or fail a prehire test. His application was rejected because of a statement to a recruiter. Unless I missed something.

I have seen a lot of posts about people failing the drug test and being sent home.Just curious, are there over the counter (legal) meds that cause this or are most of these just people that accept a job knowing they will be tested but think they can scam the test some way. I can't imagine going into anythin knowing there was a drug test that I would fail.

    For what it's worth.

I used to work for one of the nation's largest employee screening company (bigger than HireRight) and that company was the Third Party Administrator (TPA) for Schneider's drug testing program, and for many other trucking companies. So, I've dealt with literally THOUSANDS of DOT and non-DOT drug and alcohol results reporting and testing situations.

I'm not sure about what can/cannot be reported in the DAC, but I do know that at that time (and I don't think that it's changed) DOT requires a URINE test for pre-employment, random, and post accident drug testing. For alcohol they use a breathalyzer (I was a DOT certified breathalyzer technician as well) or a less preferred saliva test and in even fewer cases a blood test for alcohol.

Therefore any hair testing that is done is done as a course of that company's policy and is for their internal use/purposes only as hair follicle testing is not yet approved for DOT use. I know that Schneider and McLane hair test EVERY employee on a pre-employment basis and that drivers receive both a URINE for DOT and a hair test.

The detection window for hair testing when head hair is used IS NOT 6 MONTHS, it's 3 MONTHS. And 95%+ of hair tests are conducted using hair from the head. So, if you're doing things like shaving your head, etc. to try to avoid a hair test, you're only hurting yourself as the hair from other parts of your body, with the exception of facial hair, grows at a much slower rate than head hair and thus that increases the detection window timeframe. Also, be advised that fingernails and toenails CAN be used, as they are just modified hair biologically, but they ARE RARELY USED.

So to sum up. Here are the detection period timeframes for the various DRUG testing methods:

Urine (DOT and non-DOT): 30 days for THC (marijuana), and anywhere from 24 to 72 hours for the other drugs.

Hair(non-DOT): 3 months for all substances.

Oral Fluids Testing (non-DOT): 3-5 days for all substances.

I hope that this helps clear up some misconceptions about drug testing.

Should you have any additional questions about drug/alcohol testing as it relates to DOT and non-DOT testing, just ask me and if I don't know the answer, I'll find out as I'm still pretty plugged in with that industry.

Next time....#### and do homework before you speak. Always remember cell signals are bad and ph calls and get cut short quick. So If you need to think about something before you answer, check your signal on your ph! You might have to say "What? I cant hear you my ph...click! HINT!!!!
    Remember less is more.
Reading your post reminds me of me and my big mouth when I was young.

    Gryphon -
Thanks for the information but I can tell you that the detection time for pot in hair is definitely longer than 90 days and apparently detectable at 6 months prior. I recently failed 2 pre employment tests back to back ( I did not know I had failed the first and took a second because a better job came up) both tests taken within a week and a half for major carriers. I'm pretty sure I've been double DAC'd and can only hope to get on with a small local carrier now. I had not smoked anything for 6 months prior to testing, and both recruiters stated the test would only go back 90 days. I did pass both DOT urine tests though.
Drivers beware - I thought I had nothing to worry about and got nailed anyway. Obviously I know that drugs and driving do not mix and I agree there is a need to make sure the drivers out there, are all there, and it's my own fault anyway, but #### !

I have a relative who went through this exact same thing and received a letter stating the exact same thing you received. He was also worried about it going on his DAC report so he looked into it and requested a report. The information was not on his report. Here's a crappy thing about the DAC system, a company can put anything they want on your DAC report without regulation. I've seen many examples of this with drivers I know. Now here's the good thing. It isn't hard at all to dispute those items and have them removed from the report. If you do receive your DAC and find that they have reported the incident on your DAC, file a dispute. If that doesn't work then there are several companies out there who assist drivers with getting negative info removed from their reports.

This isn't an end to your new career and I wouldn't view it that way at all. Its a learning opportunity for you. Check your DAC and go from there. If they have reported it to your DAC, which I doubt they have, then dispute it and have it removed.
