Will only pay for scales if load weighs more than 42,000lbs?

What a joke. So there saying if load weighs 40,000lbs the scale tickets is out of drivers pockets? No way would I put up with that as company driver.

Someone said that they used to be good until they hired all the rejects from Knight Management to run it.

    As for the 42,000 pound load/scale, that's a god ###### joke.

I agree drvrtech77. Heck, even 34,000 in the box, if loaded wrong can screw up an axle weight.
I've always been pretty good at "eyeballing" or "feeling" where the weight is sitting, and if I can be confident enough to know (or think) I am leagl....with anyhing in the mid to low thirties, but not everyone is.

Not getting busted for overweight on tandems benefits the company even more than the driver.....why shouldn't they pick up the tab on a scale when the driver is uncertain how the weight is sitting regaurdless of manifest weght on BOL.

I can see a company not wanting to pay for a scale if the BOL weight is in the 20's....just slide them in the middle and be done with it....but 30's and 40's is a gamble most times.

the 42,000 policy was enacted about 3 or 4 years ago. Hell they only used to pay you back $1.00 for scaling a load.
Thier thinking was that now that all thier trailers have those air scales on them, there SHOULD be no problem with getting weight rights. Yet in the last 3 years i worked for them, the trailers i pulled, maybe only 10 of them had properly working ait scales on the trailer. So i would always say to the office, air scale not working, i need to scale to get proper weight before i head out. And every time they would pay me back.

@ Jim, you are correct, they USED to be good, until they brought in Tim Kohl, who used to run knight. He bought in all his cronies.
Now there are many Sr. drivers leaving, because they are getting short loads, sitting weekends, losing good mile loads to the rail. running short over nighters left and right.
It's not the same marten transport i started with in 2005.
Randy doesn't care, only about how well they are making money for the stockholders.

I know 2 drivers at this company making good money and like working there, sure there are a few things that erk them but every company does. Yeah, that may come as a surprise to you that we bump into Marten drivers now and then which makes your post all the more sorry.

You started your post with "Here is the truth" well as my good friend Jack Nicholson would say "YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!"

I worked for marten for many years and everything you say they didn't pay you for they paid me. I will say last few years they've gone to crap tho. No miles and alot of rail work, which we all know means no miles. ..randy firing me was the best thing to happen to me..

He failed to mention each trailer has on board uncertified air-weigh gauges. Its only on the rear tandems, meaning if your load is over 40 K go use CAT. Martin has good home time if you run regional, I was doing Dallas and got home every weekend. The problem for me, lived in New Orleans and did not have freight to get there every week. 6 months of working in Dallas got old, quit to go back to OTR. Marten is like every other fleet, and Randy is just like every fleet president. ( read what you want into that one)
