I currently live in Alabama but I have found a company in jacksonville fl that will hire new grads I still have a couple months before I hit 21 but my question is if I get my cdl in Alabama and then move to Florida would I have to change my cdl over to a Florida license and if so should I just go to school in Florida so to not even have to go thru all of that in the first place ? I'm not just relocating just for a chance at this particular company its been in my plans to move there any and all advice would be helpful thanx

Yep, your license needs to be the state where your address is. I would get your schooling at the most convenient place then pay the transferring fee later.

Your license will be issued to you based on your resident state. Doesn't matter where you go to school. You will have to get an AL CDL permit before you go to school. The permit is something they expect you to have before getting started. You'll always have to change your license to whatever state you're living in. It's not that big a deal usually you just have to pay a processing fee. Go to school and get your CDL where ever, doesn't matter, you're not going to save yourself any hassle...

I live in NC and went to school in MO. when i got to Missouri, i forfeited my NC license for a MO Class A permit..then got a MO Class A license when i finished schooling and took the road test. I had to pay 150 bucks total when I got back to north Carolina for my NC Class A CDL. 100 dollars for the license and 50 dollars for the application fee.
