New to the forum, curious to know about pa base plate cost, and how long it actually takes to finish. Jersey is looking for a Corp code that only they can make, and it takes an additional 5 days to complete. To register in pa is not too far from us. Just want to know cost and procedure and length of time from start to finish.

You have to have a physical office and employee to register for IRP and IFTA in a state. PO boxes don't cut it. You'll find pricing is pretty similar wherever you go using actual miles and not estimated miles.

With PA, you have to submit a worksheet in advance, and wait a day for it to be processed. You might not have to wait if you're not doing it in May at the Farm Show, but for some reason I want to say IRP can only be done in Harrisburg, which is why they had renewals at the Farm Show. I haven't had a PA plate since 2002, so things may have changed a little bit.

you only need the jersey code only if you are incorporated ....if you are you have to pay a minimum $500 a year corporate tax no matter what state you are from and it's a % of gross receipts for work you do in jersey even if you just pass thru .
if you are not incorporated no tax

in pa if you have your dot number and 2290 receipt any pa truck dealer with a tag service can give you a pa temp window card which will show states paid for on the spot with proof of insurance and the tag will be mailed. tag cost will depend on how many states and how many miles traveled in each state if you have no track record the state has a sheet of estimated miles and thats what they will use. don't know where you are but horwith freightliner in northampton , pa and pocono pete can also do tags figure $1,500-$1,800 depending on how may states

According to JJ Keller, the annual registration for an 80,000 lb plate is $1507.50.

Thanks guys, you have been very informative. We are a jersey based company just starting out... We are so close to pa that we had considered it as an option to run things out of there... However.. Since we are jersey based we figured it would just be easier to do it here... I'm going to continue to browse around here though..

    Thanks again guys...

    Safe driving to all :)

NJ 'Corp Code' has the same number of digits as an NJ DL number without beginning with the initial letter of your last name .

As a NJ resident, you shouldn't need it if you are titled and registering in your own name. they will use your DL number instead...

Back when NJ was not apportioned and reciprocity was still in effect, the carrier I was working with was in NJ. We had a small fleet owner [6 trucks] in Indiana w/ NJ plates. NJ gave him a Corp Code begining w/ his initial.

The owner was stopped on a roadside in Wsconsin and was written up for having two DL's until I wrote his comander a letter explaining how the NJ Number was his Corp Code and NOT a second DL.

That's why you need to show a utility bill to prove residency to get apportioned plates.

If you decided to use a company name; you will need to wait for the Corp Code. You may be able to visit MVC headquarters at 225 E. State Street in Trenton and get it in person.

The MVC agency around the corner is where the IRP office is now located you could do both stops and drive home w/ your plates...

PS. Make sure the truck was titled for 80K. New trucks and out of state trucks leave the factory showing the GVWR around 53,000# and you need to pay a small fee to have the title bumped up to 80K. You need to dothis b/4 you get your IRP in NJ...
