Driver are you sure you aren't confusing the definition of a three man team? It doesn't mean three people ride in the truck at the same time. It means two drivers on has time off, then the off driver comes back and two of them team while another guy takes off. They do this so you can have time off without stopping the truck. I use to do this when I drove for a floral carrier kind of like Armellini.
Other than that there is no reason for three people to be in a truck at the same time unless it is a husband/wife team in training. What would be the use of three people in a truck?

I drove for CRST and never seen 3 in a truck at the same time, expect for the 20/10 program and the one time we gave another CRST driver a ride. On the 20/10 sometimes depending on where the 3 drivers live you might have all of them on board for a short period of time. I mean like a few hours, as they pick up the new guy and then drop off the driver going on hometime.
But I did see and talk to 3 CR.England drivers when I was out in Nebraska one day, two were trainees and one trainer. Your right, that would be miserable, two in a truck is bad enough. -
When we hauled horses commercially we would three in the truck quite a lot. It was my wife and I and either the owner of the horses, or a groom or sometimes even the Vet. Most of our trips weren't longer than 35-40 hours due to the horses being on board so it wasn't like we were doing that constantly. Also was a little different than hauling freight. When we weren't in route we stayed in a hotel.

3 in a truck isn't bad if the lead driver knows how to rotate drivers properly.

I can almost promise, as I stated before its the 20/10 program. I drive for CRST, and they do not put 3 in a truck at the same time except as one stated earlier maybe give somebody a lift, as me and my co-driver once gave a lift to a student going home after his 28 days since we were headed to Memphis where he lived and dispatch asked us...didn't force us.
And a couple months ago I spoke to a couple gals who came over to CRST from CRE and they were put together in a truck with a male trainer. That didn't go very well, but that's a whole other story. -
I trained with another student for about a week( in addition to the trainer). But my fellow trainee got off the truck and went home, so it didn't last long. We had to get a hotel several times so everyone could sleep. But that training expereince is a whole other crazy story.

As a matter of fact to follow up, I believe evderybody on the company side is on Elogs now and the Elogs won't allow more than 2 drivers to be signed into a truck at the same time. I know this because I ran 20/10 very briefly for them a couple months ago and when the driver going on hometime left the truck he had to log off the truck completely in order for me to log on the truck

Just to pour some gas on this fire.
Freightliner offers a 3 bunk condo. Bunk 3 is above the driver.
I do however believe this is a 3 man 2 truck rotation team they were talking about.
