There is much talk here and on other sites regarding linears - their use, misuse, and the illegality of it. Some will try to defend their use by saying that the FCC no longer cares and the odds are a million to one that anyone will get caught. Maybe, maybe not. Sometimes the odds are against you and your luck runs out, as this guy found out:

Their are thousands of these guys running these radios with linears at their house. We have probably a dozen here in my town and they are always talking their crap on 19 and then one will get mad at another and throw a dead key. Us local truckers run on another channel. Everyone of these guys have no job or they are on welfare, retired or on disability. One lives next to my brother and has had for years, he comes over my brothers TV. Emails and phone calls to the FCC for years and nothing has ever been done. At least two of the worst ones finally kicked the bucket. I paid a visit to my brothers neighbor and told him I was going to pull his antenna down and shove it up his homosexual u know what and he got the hint and changed some things and he doesn't interfere over the TV anymore.
I ran a linear for years back in the 90's but never ventured off 19, when I needed to ask directions or needed to get over the BS I could but was smart enough to turn it off when I didn't need to use it. I think it is a lot harder to catch or the FCC doesn't care about truckers running down the road with one. I hate it when I hear someone running with theirs on and just talking to the driver 100ft ahead of them.
I bought my 500 watt linear at a CB shop in New Mexico, the guy built them and one day the law showed up and confiscated everyone he had along with export radios. That was a lot of money and I am sure their was some P.O. drivers that had left theirs to be worked on. -
Nothing runs your luck out faster than being a complete idiot. Warm to the touch means the filaments were idling, or it was sitting on top the stove, or it was in the oven with the turkey. Only by measuring excessive ERP is there evidence of operation. However making and signing statements is all that is required to indicate you do not belong in the gene pool if humanity is to evolve. Come to think of it actually using it while your neighbors are watching Wheel of Fortune also qualifies.

Well if he wasn't smart enough to ensure he wasn't causing interference to others, then he certainly can't be smart enough to make it look clean when Uncle Charlie comes around.

Interesting since you agree to allow them to inspect your station ......

We're talking "BASE STATIONS" here....What do we as truckers care if one of the many idiots on base stations get busted for being an ####### while running too much power?
We don't....!papa1953 Thanks this.
