Why should a company pay for this or pay for that? If you need a twic card to do a job, and it makes sense to have one, it doesn't cost very much money to get one.... Go get it...... If a company pays for it, great, but if they don't.. ..and that bothers you, move along down the line. just becaause a company will or will not pay for these things does not make or break them as bad or good. Such a minor expense I would think most drivers who figured they needed it would just plunk down some pocket change to get it to make themselves more marketable when hunting a job. I have a brother who is a machinist by trade. I bet he has over $50,000 or more in tools he's bought over the past 25 years. He ####### about it sure enough, but it's part of his chosen profession. $100 or $200 for a twic card???? What are you crying and complaining about???

I would like to say thanks to USA for your threads today made me laugh my butt off as well as get me a warning on here you have made my day as well as the pack winning
-
I'm sorry but drivers already pay out their ying yangs for unpaid miles and unpaid acesseral pay and now you are saying you should also bend over and take it in the shorts on more fees to the company?

Heck why not chip in for the fuel and plates and permits also as a company driver. I'm sure that would make me even more marketable to a trucking company. Heck don't want to be a crybaby and complain. Getting punk'd is much preferable.
This is just the cost of new regs being passed onto the drivers by a cheap company that wants to save money for the Christmas party for the office staff. If you want to let them roll you then fine. But mine dropped a long time ago and all I need is employment longevity and clean driving record to get my pile of egg corns.
crazeydude and chalupa Thank this. -
You're comparing apples to oranges talking about company drivers paying for tags. No, the company owns the equipment and obviously it is their responsibility to maintain it pay for tags and permits.
You however want to be a truck driver. If you want a license you have to pay for it. If you want a twic card and the company wont pay you either quit or pay for it. These are such minor costs to complain about, peanuts. Just do it or find another line of work.
There are people who spend many hundreds of thousands on their chosen career path. I used my brother to illustrate how he has to spend thousands himself on the tools necessary to be a machinist. Mechanics are no different. And you're crying about paying for a twic card? -
At the time it was sold, my husband had spent about $30,000 on tools as a mechanic. None of it was reimbursed by the companies he worked for...and you want to complain about a few hundred dollars? JCW had to get a TWIC, and a passport card. Cost of doing your job, and as such you can deduct it at tax time.
-
No different than drivers being required to furnish safety gear such as steel toed boots, hard hats, safety glasses etc, etc, etc.
If you don't want to get a TWIC card then it's simple....don't work there. -
And frankly, if you take it with you when you leave (TWIC, passport, boots, tools, etc.) the company should not have to foot the bill.
-
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the 300.00 hold back is for the hoses and connectors.
I heard if you loose them they take your money, but when you leave you get those funds back.
I can see that as these items cost alot of money.
I own my own trk. and at times I've had to buy certain tools to do a job pulling a company trl. My costs, but the company guys were issued the tools. Yes I said wait not fair. But they said, true, but if you quit then you can have those tools as you paid for them.
The company drivers will get charged for them if they do not turn them in, when they quit.
Licenses and passports are ours to keep, So we bear the costs.
I understand this and have no problem with that. -
im looking right now, hauling chemicals, not getting any miles. How is your home time?

I drive my truck and del my frt just fine without a twic and passport. So obviously it is not needed to do the job. Only at some jobs, And if not put forth as a condition of hire then the company should pay. Or I pay and they reimburse like my company does on DOT physicals and Hazmat
No mechanic or machinist can do their job without tools. Do you see the difference?
Believe that any OTR company driver has paid for any of these items many times over on shorted miles or non payment of det, layover local work etc... So it ain't like company's are getting worked over by the driver. if anything it is the opposite.
The logic of the big bad driver versus the little trucking company is defiantly from some parallel universe at best. Know wonder these company's find it so easy to take advantage of drivers with so many will ing to roll over for a kibble.
