Hello all, My name is Brian, i'm 25yrs old and ugly to boot
Recently i've gotten more and more interested in getting a truck driving job (I have absolutely no experience) mainly cause it seems to be decent work and the pay can be good if you are willing to work for it.
I live in Dallas Tx (Garland to be exact) and there are a few companies that are pretty close to me.
I have a girlfriend that i've been with for 3 years, no kids... closest thing i have to a kid is my worthless 140lb black lab/great dane mix dog
I am a HUGE Mopar fanatic and i drive a Dodge 4x4 truck (mopar or no car)
I do have some questions about the trucking lifestyle though, my biggest concearn is the potential strain it will put on my relationship, my girlfriend is very supportive of me and we have always had a very good relationship, i really just want to be fair to her.
My other question is the companies i have been considering, i really really dont want to travel just for a job, luckily there seems to be alot of companies located in dallas.
1. Schneider (the home run program they have looks really good to me)
2. Trans Am (about 6 miles down the highway from me)
those are the only 2 i have really given thought to, i was thinking about stevens transport but after reading some of the posts and threads on here about them i QUICKLY booted them off my list
Also is there anything i need to be on the lookout for when applying for jobs
Yup... I'm a noob

Welcome to the forum, Brian! I'm glad you decided to come here before making any commitments. There's lots of good information on the boards, and plenty of people willing to share their experiences. Start reading the various threads, post your questions, and you'll get answers -- lots of them from all different perspectives. (No trucking answers from me, though, since I'm the token four-wheeler here. LOL) Don't overlook The Ladies Room, either -- you'll gain some valuable insight into how your choices may affect your relationship -- good or bad.
So... jump right in and join us! -
Welcome, Brian! So you're:

Home run program pays less than a regular otr job. As a Trans Am driver, I don't really recommend them to newbies. You really have to be dedicated.

Thanks for the heads up, I already spend too much money modifying my truck. -
Sorry, I reread my post, it may seem a little harsh. If you really want to work for TA I will give you all the tips and hints you want. Being in Rockwall will be better for you than the Olathe fleet.

I have a friend who used to work nightime security at the rockwall terminal, he said that the majority of the drivers that he talked to up there was really nice, of course there was a few people who didnt like the company (they said it went to hell ever since TA bought out hellwig) -
I hope your friend isnt the one that got fired for assaulting a driver.
-
no that wasnt him, he did get fired, but he got fired over a whole bunch of bull shi*t
he busted a driver with empty beer cans in their truck, he reported it and filled out all the paper work on it, the driver got fired, the driver turned around and sued the security company he worked for for "planting evidence in his truck" (the #### thing was locked) and the driver also raised all sorts of hell with TA and somehow managed to get his job back... but the security company fired him so they could avoid the lawsuit
this all happened about 2 years ago. -
This happened a few weeks ago, some driver said something the security guard didn't like and the guard punched him from his van and then got out of the van and punched him again. Then the guard claimed because the driver was white and he was black that he used the N word. I saw and heard the whole thing, TA was not happy with this guy.
