Roads around Harrisburg all screwed up right now. My dedicated shipper is closing the doors til Monday now. 81 North closed at exit 90. What a mess.

Has anyone heard whether Mercer has applied for, or received, authorization under the CARB fleet exemption provisions for older trucks to still operate in Cali as of Jan 2012?

Katz, will this affect you? Can't remember what year your truck is.

As I understand it, I'm OK until 2014. My truck is 2006 with an EPA '05 engine.

I'm trying to relocate to AZ or NV before 2014, and won't go back into CA with the truck. I'm sure rates for CA freights will go up, but my guess is not enough to justify $15k for DPF retrofit and reduced fuel efficiency that comes with it.

Even if I put a DPF on, I'm 90% positive CARB/EPA will come up with a new standard within the next few years anyway. Those bureaucrats have to keep doing that to justify their existence, or they'll get de-funded and have to get real jobs like the rest of us.

Has anyone had issues with their Pre-Pass? I always got a green light up until I had a class-a inspection 6mos ago in Oregon. They put points on my CSA score for:

    1: an unsecured fire extinguisher
2: exhaust mounting bracket was broken
3: a mysterious air leak that went away when the officer tried to show it to me. That I spent a pretty penny to try and find in a shop and didnt.

But ever since I only get the green when the scale is closed else they hook me in. Im going to hand my pre pass in. Why should I pay $12 a month or what ever it is when I never get the bypass?

I also seem to be sitting a little more. I guess its slowing down already.

Did you discuss this with Mercer? Several of us had the same issue a year ago and it was an issue with PrePass. The system does not select an individual truck just a percentage of the fleet. Did you change a license or registration maybe? That can invalidate your unit and you will always get pulled in.
