Only once have I been kicked out.

I was stopping at the Walmart in West Memphis- which has a truck parking area, as has been mentioned- to do some shopping about the time my 14 was running out. So I figured I'd just take my break there. Security woke me up about 3am and ran me off. Turns out they don't want trucks there more than 2 hours. They have signs posted now, but didn't used to. We are welcome to stop and shop, but not to stay.

I generally only park at Walmart long enough to get what I need, then I move on. I prefer to sleep on my break, not argue with wanna be cops. And I like having access to a shower, as well.

I also have a list of all the Walmarts next to or near a truck stop. I park in the truck stop lot, and walk over to the store to shop.

Walmart in Streetsboro, Ohio don't like you sleeping on the lot also. Sometimes they won't bother you and other times they will keep beating on the door till you get ticked and leave.

The ones that don't have truck parking are because of the abuse and trash thrown out the windows.

Walmart is one place that is nice enough to let truckers park and shop. I respect that and don't push my luck taking a 10 there. Some seem to think, just because they allow you to shop, it's a truckstop.

Each Walmart is different. If I was going to stay 10, at least ask the manager. With good trip planning, one can find a better place.

I know one Walmart in Shelbyville, TN, where a huge Tyson plant is located, has absolutely no truck parking around town. Trucks will pick up and park at the local Walmart for their break even though there is a Pilot 20 miles down the road. There are "No Truck Parking" signs, but they have been doing it for years. With all the chicken blood dripping, I'm surprised they haven't done anything.

Another thing to consider is the asphalt. Having worked on a parking lot paving crew before, the asphalt thickness can be half that of the loading dock area. We all seen signs directing truck route flow. That is because of the asphalt. Then you have a bunch of yahoo's stradling 6 car spaces not having a clue to what damage they are causing. That's one reason you see No Trucks Allowed at churches and stuff, because they might have just 2" of asphalt. I'd hate to have to pay a $20,000 bill.

This is one thing a GPS is good for. You can pull up the local Walmart and call and ask if you can park there. You done your part and didn't assume anything.

I just called the Wal-Mart in Bixby, OK...mostly because we are planning on having dinner at a restaurant near there for my daughter's birthday. You can park there on the south lot by Tire/Lube for a few hours, anyway. GoogleMaps does show a truck and an rv parked in that location. I talked to the manager about parking for a few hours for the birthday dinner, not a 10 hour break.

WalMart Kingman, Az. has signs posted, but you see trucks there all the time with security cruising the lot constantly. How about parking around back near loading docks ? Never can figure out WM, Winslow, Az. right next to a truckstop, and front lot is full of trucks 24/7.
