Almost any radio under $250 is junk, IMHO.

Cobra 29 with 18 feet of coax and a Francis fiberglass antenna. IMO you can't go wrong with this combo, and if you go to the right place you can get all of this for under your desired price.

I bought a cheap radio shack CB about 10 years ago. Still works fine.

There are many radio over $250 I would consider junk. The Uniden PC68Elite,PC68LTW,PC68XL and the PC78LTW are well built and have good track record for under $100 direct from Uniden with free shipping until the end of the year.

I'd go with this, flexible on the coax length however. Sometimes shorter will work just as good and you don't have the excess wire to deal with.

I would go with the Cobra 29, the coax, and a Francis 5 1/2 foot antenna, or the new General Lee HP (over $250). I personally use the Cobra 29- its legal and I paid less than $40 for it peaked and tuned.
