i've ridden with a lot of drivers who a very good drivers but they follow too closely. And that's how i was until i got a truck with this system.
When i say tailgate, i don't mean i was trying to have romantic relations with the car in front of me, just inches off the rear bumper but i was definitely TOO close.
i think a lot of drivers are very skilled and generally safe, but they are in a hurry all the time. If you lay back and go with the flow, you'll basically get there just as fast; When traffic subsides and you get onto open highway, then you can hammer it.

Its fine if you like it but I don't think we all need one. Drivers that run 10 feet off the ###-end of other vehicles don't need one either-they need a different line of work. I'm in a smooth bore tanker so I hang well back because I can't react as fast as other trucks can without laying it over and I can't stop as fast as other trucks do either. -
I first started driving pulling a skate board with the Black & Chrome out Des Moine and century class had the vorad system and I loved it, at first thought it would drive me nuts in traffic but appearently it can tell if your in heavy traffic or just lookin for flaws on the bumper in front of you. As a driver (not a steering wheel holder) it irritates the hell out of me to see truckers tailgating and pushing 4 wheelers down the road it makes us all look bad. Its bad enough we are always made to be outlaws, dirty, and dumd amongst other things by the media, general public and others so why cant we take it among ourselves to change our percieved image. Dont know about you but right next to PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN should be PROUD TO BE A TRUCKER (Iam)

I dunno if it was just my specific type of setup, but a Pete 379 I drove had the system in it... And a fuse pulled is all it took.

Army has em in our M915A4's,we just shut em off, hold left knob in for like 2 seconds.Shuts em off

The system might be set on high (really sensitive). This setting will go off if a bird farts. Find out if you can turn down the sensitivy of the system. It will help when a 4 wheeler in your blind spot drifts to close to you.

I don't like vorad either. I goes off for no reason. Like construction sites, bridges, overhead signs, ghosts. I don't tailgate and follow a 7 second rule. I just hate that thing. And one of these day I will cut the speaker wire.
-
I had one in my very first truck and it was the most hated thing besides the QC. I just unscrewed the speaker and unplugged the wires and put it back in. I could be in the middle of the dessert with no traffic for miles, come up on a bridge or a cloud in the sky and the #### thing would just irritate the hell out of me and kill the cruse control. Unplugging it did nothing for the cruse but it did for sound so I've gotten used to not minding keeping my foot on the go pedal all the time.

Your right it's hated, so why keep it around is what I wonder. On my last truck I could just unplug it. On this one I can't, so I have to cut the wire to the speaker. I can't stand that Bleep, Bleep, Bleep sound. I find it very distracting.
