I subscribe to http://www.lmtruck.com/ .
There are a lot of opportunities with straight trucks wannabes overlook that are much better than they will get with an OTR company .
At this time of year home heating oil companies should need new drivers . Many bakeries are going to employing independent contractors . UPS will be hiring seasonal help and it's a good way to get a foot in the door with UPS . -
Yeah I know.. there are a lot noobs that either drop their first company before their year contract is up or the company drops them. Reasons I went to a private school and then got on with company. I only mentioned as an option that would at least get you started if tuition cost proves to be challenging.
I totally forgot about that, DragginMan.. You are absolutely right! GO CLASS A IF THAT'S WHERE YOU WANT TO END UP!DragginMan said: ↑I started my commercial career with a chauffers', driving wrecker. Graduated to a Class B, still driving wrecker but bigger, more GVW, with air brakes. Now then, when I was ready to make the leap to Class A, NONE of the miles (@500,000) were recognized as experience. Had to go to CDL school for the required hours and start all over again. Get the "A" and it can be used for anyhting you want to drive.Click to expand... -
I met a guy in St Augustine, FL yesterday who has a class B. He is having trouble finding a job. He also doesn't want to go otr.

Everyone I've talked to that lives in Florida or who "knows" about the job market says it sucks BAD down there for work! Florida has been hit harder than other states, so I've heard. So doesn't surprise me to hear trouble finding local work. I hope things improve soon across the nation.

My cousin lives in Florida. He has worked in construction in the state for all of his life. At one time he had over 50 people working for him. He is now struggling to find remodeling jobs that will pay enough for him to survive. Apparently, what work that is available is now very cutthroat. Sounds like trucking.
