I had planned on trying hauling seasonal fruit this winter but my deal at home changed so will have to put it on hold.
I did see quite a few O/O's last winter when I spent some time around US 27..... -
Stabob, I was like you I started at age 19 hauling sod out of south Florida aftern knocking on a few doors and making it a point to find a job, and stay local in Florida finally I got a phone call from a company willing to give me a shot. I think "tazz" could find something down there, there's enough companies hauling citrus, there has to be an opening.

i'm thinking about giving Brad at Chuck Young Citrus a call once i get done with OTR and see if i can lease a truck on with them.. they do citrus during the season, and then melons during the summer.. so i'll be year round work, and if things slow down, i'll just get a flatbed, and go back to haulig lumber and oil field pipe.. i still have all of my flatbed gear.

C.young is a good place I got a call back from them the same day I took this job with Barben fruit I took Barben cuz of the day cabs and the yard is so close to the house. C.Young is 98% sleepers meaning more time sleeping in the truck. But if thats ur thing thats the place to be nice fast trucks and good load% pay.
If anyone is interested I knoow Oakley is needing 20something friut driver ASAP don't know much other than that. -
sleepers come in handy when you're sitting out in a grove waiting on the crew leader to put the last few dumps in the trailer.. i remember when i was a kid and i use to ride with my dad in his day cab,, we'd have an hour or two to kill while the crew leader dumped bins into his goat so he could finish loading the trailer, we'd either walk the grove and lay under the empty and take a nap. and oakley want's three years experience. i guess they've really cleaned up their act, i remember back in the day they were the Swift of the citrus industry.
-
you are talking about an hour or two shhhheezzz dude ive been working at IRT try a day or two to kill.
-
Is that 3 years experience citrus or otr or just driveing a truck of somekind. Sittin the bar a lil high there for what Ive herd they pay.
-
just three years over all driving

Hi
I left IRT also and was wondering how the fruit hauling is going . Do you go on unemployment in the summer ?
Hope all is well.
If it is drop and hook , then you dont need a sleeper , right ?
You dont really get stuck waiting anywhere like at IRT, right ?
thanks
