This was a good and funny thread in places. Glad I found it. I have hit 3 deer and 1 moose over the years. Deer 1 was with a 5 ton Army Ammo truck. Wasn't much left to even take back to the camp fire ALTHOUGH it took me 4 hours to clean the underside of the 5 ton before turning it in. 2 and 3 were with car hauler trucks. Both were caught with the right front post of the tractor over-head rack so damage was minimal ----- unless you were the deer. Caught a moose's tail in the right mirror bracket on the back-side ( mind the pun ) of a mountain pass around here known for moose. Didn't see it until I was past it. They don't call 'em 'swamp donkey's' for nothing. At night, moose are as dark as crap AND that's with a moose bar AND moose lights on the truck ..... not deer lights or fog lights .... MOOSE lights.

Insurance 'should' classifie this as 'an act of God' and pay out.

One other point. Many eons ago, when air systems on trucks were brand new, an old round wood, or stick hauler, or log hauler, whatever you call them, once told me, 'When you actually see a deer or moose on the road, and you have time to react, touch your air system. Not enough to stop, or even slow down, just put 10 or 15 pounds though the release valves. 99 times of 100 the moose or deer will instinctivealy think it's a big cat hissing and run for it. I've used that method a few times and it seems to work. Maybe a fluke, who knows.
